Anyone else having a slow time moving their hay this year? I had to turn people away last year. This year, I haven't hardly heard a peep.

Same here, last year my phone was ringing off the hook and sold all my hay in no time. This year I haven't sold anything and have hardly got any inquires about it.

I have a feeling though with the way out winter is going, come spring people will be scrambling for hay.

Last year was a bad year for hay, IIRC.

This year was pretty good, so people don't need to go out and buy as much.

You're right though, there will be some demand for hay come February.

No idea yet here in Northeast Ohio. Have not posted any on Craigslist yet. Not sure what to sell for yet either (50lb Squares).

We've could have sold lots more than we had this year. (SE Mt.) Have a "rant" about some of it however - we still have 200 big rounds in the yard, some of it paid for, that was supposed to be outa here in oct. Now we are in the last part of dec., have had lots of snow, drifts, and temp. fluctuations. A lot of those bales are froze down and caked w/snow. I can get them dug out, but now people are going to be whining about torn net wrap, truck drivers are going to have a hard time getting in and out of the yard - etc.. OK, down off the soap box now - back to work !

This was the first year I was able to sell all of my hay out of the field on baling days. Much better for me than having to pick it up and put it in the shed. Had several buyers who had mysterious problems and couldn't get what they had said they would, but it all worked out in the end.

Slow here too. But my flock is putting a big dent in the supply already, so may be to my best interest to not sell much, even if I have leftover next haying season.

Same here.Hay prices are falling. No one seens to be buying.Strange.With the early drought, bunches of rained on late hay good hay should be selling fast and high priced. But it's not.Whats the deal?

I help neighbors put up hay, but people still looking for hay around here. $10 from Farmers, and $17 from feed stores for 50-60 lbs.

Still good demand here in WI. I'll need to buy some this winter, but am mostly looking for small squares, which aren't as easy to find. I've seen anywhere from $4 to $8 per bale, and a wide range in quality.
I sold all I wanted to right out of the field in 4x6 and 5x6 rounds. Hate to have to buy hay back, but what I sold wasn't dairy cow quality.

I have had the opposite problem and had to tell the guy who was buying my hay that I could not sell any more till at least the last part of Feb. Sure as heck do not want to have to buy hay for my live stock because I sold to many bales

It has been slow here also just the regular buyer from years ago could keep enough here at home last year sold out before the first of the year.

Are some of the smaller livestock producers and horse owners in your area selling their livestock? Many smaller dairies in central MN are shutting down and renting out or selling their ground. It's get big or get out.

It just depends on how close you are to a drought area. 2 years ago there were hundreds of loads sent to Texas from north Arkansas. Last year we had a bad drought and hay was brought in from Mississippi and lots of corn stalks were fed. This year was the best hay year in recent memory. Everybody has a surplus, at least that's what I thought in November. This has been a snowy and icy late fall and I've fed more than I have at this time since back in the 70's and early 80's.

We buy hay and to get a price we could afford we grabbed over 500 at 3.35 each. We bought that guy out last yr and had to find more. Gonna end up locating most likely before grass starts growing. We're located in CNY area.

All I can tell you is now that we've got a couple of belgians, we're doing our part keeping the hay market from getting too flooded!

good GOD those things eat.

I've never seen anything like it. I thought beef cows ate a lot.

On top of all the grain, they'll down one bale each per day without even thinking about it - they'd easily go two each if I was that generous.

the auction I attend seems to be doing a brisk business,..second cutting grass rounds are bringing around 62.00

Sounds like I'm right in the ballpark with 40lb bales at 3.50 a bale. I'd just need some activity. I need to have an empty barn next June

I had hay go all the way to texas last year. Indiana, Michigan , new jersey, florida, no one seems to be looking this year. My uncles barn burnt, so We're 13000 short of last year. still quiet. I'm in NNY.

I think you'll be okay Brendon. I'm short I think, had a lousy year for hay. I imagine after the New Year it'll pick up. I'm going to try and locate 25-30 good big rounds.

You might stop by TSC and see if they want any too!
