HD 5 questions??

Ran across a 1955 hd 5 crawler /loader for sale for a reasonable(cheap , under 1800 bucks) price...but are parts for the undercarrage still avaliable???I do not know a ton about dozers but I do know the pins/bushings look like they need replacing...anything else I should look for???How hard a job is it to repace pins/bushings???Suposidly it runs good , but I have not heard it run yet....I don't imagine detroit 2-71 parts are too hard to find??Also If the pins/bushings are not avalible ,are they made of any type of special steel (IE 4140 or tool steel) or are they strait up mild steel???( I have a small machine shop and could make if needed)For the price , it sounds like I could use it for some projects around the farm....Thanks ,Shawn

you get what you pay for. Chances are a machine that cheap is either three parts dead or REALLY REALLY old...either way it's going to be a significant investment of money, materials and time to get it to working condition.

Most older machines still have parts around but you have to search far and wide and make your own but with anything, if you enjoy it and like a good project, y ou can't go wrong for that price. At the very least you'd get most of your money back if you scrapped it! haha!

good luck man!!

The new chaine should be available from BERCO-CRAWLER HEAVEN 315-597-6899 and am still have some HD5 use parts for motor, transmission, stering cluch, final drive and more.

Shawn, I can replace the pins and bushingin your tracks, or I can sell you the pins and bushings. It takes a very large press to do the job. Let me know if I can help. Thanks Rays
