head-gasket blowing 8640

Anybody know an easy way to keep a head-gasket on a 619 engine in a 8640 from blowing between cylinders. A better gasket or shims, HELP !!!!!!!

The sleeves are not even or straight, by that I mean they are low on one side and high on the other. I guess the block was machined wrong from the factory. How the H--- do you fix that?

R81276 SHIM AR X 0.05 MM
R81277 SHIM AR X 0.10 MM

Somebody may have thrown sleeves in there willy nilly without checking height.
Bolt torquing with an accurate wrench in the proper sequence/steps with fasteners that haven't been stretch is vital.

One time we had the same problem with a 560 farmall diesel, found out that one of the sleeves were too low and had to be shimmed up,never gave any trouble after that.

You may have to block counterbored.Sleeve is not level.Check sleeve height. If this an ongoing problem sleeve moves and wears counterbore.

You are clamping the sleeve down to check the height, aren't you?

When was the last time this motor was apart?

Are all the sleeves off by the same amount?
Or is the problem with only a couple?

This isn't lookin' good...

Sounds like you already have the sleeves out. Adding shims won't fix an uneven condition without stripping the block down and giving it some very accurate machine work. Pick the wrong guy for this job and you lose...big time. Chances are good the block deck is a little wavy, too. This could be fixed at the same time.

You might want to weigh your options against a known good block.

I've had the problem a few times and milling the head took care of it,of all the 619's I have re-built I have never had a sleeve protrusion problem, just lucky I guess...

You may consider a JD reman. The basic comes with the head and oil pan already on. You add manifolds, injectors, injection pump, starter, etc. By the time you have your block checked and possibly corrected you could be money ahead to put in a reman. They come with a two year warranty as well. Just something to think about. If you mess with the clutch make for sure it goes back in adjusted correctly or you could do serious harm to the crankshaft later. The 619 engine can deliver a lot of horsepower but they don't like heat. The number 1 cracked block at the reman engine plant is the 619.

I had an old Rambler that blew two head gaskets in a short time.Last one was in winter.I took it to a local garage.mechanic said he would have the head milled. no more gasket problems. He knew something that I didnt.
