Hello from Alberta

Hi, found this forum while doing some research on old Cockshutt tractors, I live on an acreage near Calgary and have found garden tractors are not always quite big enough so Ive decided to look for a small old tractor to restore, preferably a Cockshutt because my Pop had a dealership in a small sask farming community when I was a kid. I seem to collect garden tractors and enjoy working on old equipment, sometimes I keep them original but not always, depends on what I have to start with, last winter I was working on a little '57 Bolens and I just started on an early 70s Ford garden tractor a couple weeks ago

couple pics of my '57...

That's a very nice looking Bolens I've got one out back that I plan to enter in the ugly tractor contest. My son has about 5 Cockshutt tractors and I sold the COOP E3 that I had about 3 years ago. Now I have 7 Garden Tractors. I moved to a smaller place, and I can fit more in the same space as the big ones.

Thx... and how come my dropbox links dont work normal here... or is that just me being a newbie??

I'd like to find another Bolens but they are hard to come by here, I got that one about 25yrs ago, wasnt completely stock then and its even more modified now... but its still a 'working' tractor, certainly never had it easy last winter.

I expect I will need to rebuild a motor so thx for the links, I'll be looking into those in just a minute. I grew up in the back of Pops dealership in the late 60s so tearing down a motor isnt a new thing to me... more of a hobby to get me out of the house.

So anyway.. Im thinkin I want a small Cockshutt, and if Im correct the 1950s model 40 had pto as standard equipment, optional on a 35.... dont know about the 20 or 30, and I really prefer the all red with yellow highlight paint scheme. It will get fairly light duty use, pull a mower, snowblade, maybe a small fel, kind of a handi hobby toy. Right now I have an early 80s International w/fel, 53hp, hydro, bit too big for a lawn mower;)

I got and email from dropbox yesterday. It seems they got some kind of vulnerability issue and asked to delete and re-establish the links. I tried last night but didn't get it right. I'll try again and post the new links when I get it set up.

I just checked some of my links on other forums and they are working as normal, I have quite a large paid account with dropbox but I never got an email from them, seems odd, the links here still work if I copy and paste into the browser.

anyway I'll try a little test here again. Im currently working on a Ford garden tractor, several actually, but one I would like to painted in Cockshutt colors so I searched around and found some examples others have done, this dp link is to a folder with 5 pics, plus I uploaded my favorite

db links are still not working normal, but they work if copied to the browser...oh well, is what it is.

Im fixing up a couple old Fords like the one with the kid and his medals I posted above, and thats very much like the paint scheme I would like to put on one of them, the other will remain ford blue.

and hopefully I can find a small matching Cockshutt to restore, still researching those and there is nothing at the moment locally, Im hoping to find one within about 3-4 hrs drive. I see similar sized tractors around here ranging from $1000-$3500 depending on condition and attachments. Generally something around $1500-$2000 will move under its own power but need a fair amount of work so thats about what Im hoping to find.

Hi I have a COckshutt 80 that runs I would sell,
it's in your price and travel range. Email me if
your interested.

Thx Gordey, from what I see on tractordata the 80 wouldnt have a rear pto so I think Im looking for a 20 to 40 built after '46.... but I could be wrong... still learnin;)

So.. something else I'll be needing to research in the near future is older mowers....

I have a 3 acre yard and 11 acre pasture, few trees and outbuilding in the yard but its mostly grass, dugout to go around but really nothing else in the pasture, not even critters this year so I may want to mow it come fall, no rocks and reasonably smooth, in the past Ive rented it out for a couple horses but those wont be here this year, I have a collection of garden tractors for tighter areas but most of the yard doesnt need to be a perfectly finished lawn, but Im close to the highway so I like the place to look clean and well kept, I supervise a large sheet metal shop and Im quite mechanically inclined, have a welder and alot of steel fab tools at home, I can rebuild and maintain most anything, and would like an older mower that will compliment an older tractor.

any suggestions or recommendations are welcome.

oops.. still gettin used to the forum.... I edited my last post instead of replying to it.. but not a big deal.. if ne1 noticed it seemed to go missing thats just me being an dummy..lol

HiLance, I saw this pic. on yest. tractor forum. I took this of my Grandson Tye, we had just returned home frome a tractor pull that pulls garden tractors also. My wife and I pull with cockshutt 30 and modified 40. We have 12 cockshutts and 3 olivers. I refinished this 1972 Jacobson tractor (found in ford blue) to cockshutt colors, to match ours. White farm eq. set this tractor to Canadian Imp. dealers, 1972 to 74. Also sold as oliver & MM

Hey thx, nice to know some background to the pic... and it is very nice pic of a very nice tractor... congrats.

It seems I'll be painting a Ford LGT 100 in Cockshutt 80 colors;)
