looking at a kubota L4310; is this good or what brand model should i go to for $13 -15K?

needed on 200 ac. ranch for shredding, clearing and maintaining ranch fence lines and surfaces.

I'm not going to tell you what to buy,but take somebody who knows tractors with you when you go to look at one.Buy from a name brand dealer, not a tractor jocky or out of somebody's front yard,ESPECIALLY DON'T BUY FROM AN ONLINE AUCTION!!!!!!!! Scroll through the several posts below and read the experiences that KATHRINE has had with a real gem of a peice of crap.

The Kubota is an EXCELLENT machine! Some people on here wiil come on and tell you to buy a 30 or 40 year old machine and it will last longer than any new Kubota and that is just not the case. I have three Kubota's a JD and a New Holland and the Kubota's get ran the hardest and need the least amount of repairs. However, with all that said, with 200 acres I'd strongly recomend going up to an M series tractor instead of the L. Not that the L is a bad mahcing, they are very good machines but with 200 acres I think you'll find yourself wanting bigger implements to get more done. If you were gonna have 20-50 acres I'd say ok get the L, but I'd stongly recomend looking at a used M4700, M4800, M4900, M5400, M5700, or maybe an M4030, M5030. You should be able to find some of them in that price range. Buy the newest one you can afford and you will have far fewer headaches than trying to keep an antique machine going. Heck, I'd even look at a new one, Kubota has some awesome finance programs.

Katherine, I think he's using you as an example because you're the current one. I've followed these boards for a couple years, and if you go back through the archives there are plenty of horror stories about bad purchases.

Naw, you are most certaintly NOT the only person who has bought a piece of used equipment and found major problems with it. It's just that most of us have bought a bunch of this stuff over the years and things usually average out. I have bought things I have never used, and I once bought a tractor because I felt sorry for the old girl.... I didn't make money on that one. I would guess most of us have more invested in our equipment than we could sell it for. But few of us are full time farmers.

Didn't mean to single you out there for any embarassment. You're posts were just the best recent example of how bad a person can get taken advantage of. I did it myself a few years ago on a 3010 Deere and I've been at this for over 40 years. Bought a 706 IH at an auction 28 years ago with the same results. In both cases I'd have been better off taking them right to the bone yard and sold them for a loss and been done with it.Would have saved thousands in the long run. Happens to us all.Sorry if I insulted you at all, wasn't my intent.

NO, apology NOT needed, I just read the post's to early this morning before coffee, and it "hit me worng". I apologise also for comming back at you. I shouldn't have stated my reply so harshly either.

See everybody? Anyone can make mistakes, it takes ADULT'S to work them out, and apologise for theirs! (I try to teach both my children this, I just have to learn to practice it more!)

I think you should hope your Kubota's NEVER need repairs because I believe the Jap Yen is going to appreciate a LOT against the greenback. It will make everything from Japan extremely expensive including the Kubota.

With 200 acres to maintain, you might even want to think about two tractors. One smaler one, say in the 30-40 horse range with a loader, and a larger one, say 80-90 for the tough work.
