help! 3cyl experts

My 2000 3cyl was leaking hydraulic around the compression nut so I watched the you tube and ordered the parts from the same company. I cannot get the hi-press to thread into the pump. Both the new nut and the old nut will spin on with it off the tractor, but cannot get either to start on the tractor. Since this doesn't look like one of Ford's best ideas, I figure someone else has had this problem. I need all the help I can get. When I run a straight edge across the 2 bolt holes in the middle of the pump it makes it appear that the tube is bent down a bit, but it is pretty hard to bend so I am not sure that is the problem. I have tried the nut with the pump fast on the tractor and with nuts loose so I could wiggle it around.

I probably should have left sleeping dogs lie, but I know unattended leaks mean some day I will forget and run it out of fluid so I want to get if fixed. I have to at this point.

I had the same problem on my neighbors 2000, if I remember right it took me a couple of try's to get the inside compression fitting positioned right, it wants to slide down the tube off the end of the piece before you can get it to compress properly. I think I ended up loosening the pump to get the alignment right and holding the tube tight against the pump as I threaded it in and got it snugged up, it's tricky but with some patience you can get it.

should the rubber at the bottom be down on the end of the tube when trying to install it? The video says to slide the nut up higher than that but it would seem that is part of the problem as i cannot force it down as I can get no traction with the nut? I guess if someone knows how long that tube should extend beyond the nut assembly that might be a start. I was also thinking of taking the high pressure line loose at the other end so I can hit the pump square with the nut, but I am afraid that would be one more can of worms.

My 3000 had to be majiggered in place. The nut, rubber sleeve and all that sits up the tube a little way. The tube on mine had to be pushed down where it bends over the bell housing, allowing it to bend up inside the Threaded bore in order to enter the inner bore at the bottom of the threaded bore the nut screws into. I used a ratchet strap and a small block of wood to assist, could also have a strong helper assist.

Thanks. I figure I am going to have to bend the end of the tube up a little. When I took the pump off, it slipped down with the tube still in so I am guessing maybe it is bent down too much.

I just wanted to say I got it done! I took the one suggestion and shaved the tube off with my grinder so the washer wouldn't bite on the groove in the tube. While it was hot from grinding I bent the tube a little and it went together like it was supposed to. Thanks all!
