HELP my memory

what is the offical name for the part sits on top of the engine (mower, tiller etcc..) that you pull to start it? Pull cord does not rewind and plastic up inside of it is worn to wear it does not grip. I am having a brain fade and cannot think of the name of the part to look it up.

I've always called it a recoil, but I'm not sure that's the official name.

The whole thing is the recoil starter, don't know if each piece has an individual name, but probably yes.

Thanks all, trying to find the part on the internet - several sites but none of them like those terms. And the numbers on the engine are too worn to make out what they are. I'll have to try some phone calls tomo.

The plastic part the rope winds up on is the spool...Is for a B&S 3 or 3-1/2, I've got some you can have for the postage...email me with a picture.
