Help Replacing Crankshaft Pulley???

8N '50 front mount distrib.

I bought a special crank shaft pulley for PTO shaft and eventually for mounting bracket for front end loader.

Anyway I'm having trouble getting the old pulley off, HOW do I get it off???

When I try to turn the bolt or nut holding pulley it turn wheels.

Pointers anyone.

I used an openend boxend wrench and a deadblow hammer, one good whack and it was loose, Might work for you. Good luck

Front end still on the tractor or is it off?? If off it is simple if you have an impact gun. Short fast trigger pulls do it almost all the time.

Impact wrench to loosen the bolt. If you don't have one then put the tractor in gear and block the wheels or chain it in place.

Once the bolt is off a good 3 jaw puller will ease the pulley right out.

Ron.......one of the problems with removing the front pulley bolt is the crankshaft turns when you put enny muscle on the crownhead bolt. Just stuff some 1/4" rope down enny sparkie hole to stop the crankshaft from turning. Simple, eh? ........Dell

If you have one, use the impact wrench. Easy.

If you don't have the special tools like an impact wrench then take a big blunt chisel and a BFH. Put the chisel on the nut so it will go counterclockwise and hit it with the BFH. This messes up the nut some but it can't be seen when you put it back together. This also works to put the nut back on.

I recently removed my crank pulley bolt by putting trans in neutral.My pto shaft has about a 1/4" hole thru it.I put about a 2" long bolt thru the hole.An adjustable wrench or a big pipe wrench can then be used without having to grab and maybe damage the PTO spline.The handle of the wrench was long enough to brace against the lift arms.Your crank is now prevented from rotating so the crank bolt can be loosened.Since in neutral don't have to deal with tractor going anywhere.Be sure to properly torque crank bolt when tightening.
