Help with an A.C. Gleaner combine

I posted on 8/11 but no responses yet. Help! I am looking at an AC Gleaner combine Bean Special. Can I thresh wheat with this unit. Am new to the grain growing and don't want to get stuck with something that won't do wheat.

The only difference between a grain combine and a combine that is a bean special is: The bean special will sometimes have a spike cylinder, heavier bearings in a few places, and more cups in the clean grain elevator. Maybe a few other small differances.

What ever brand of combine it is, it should do a good job in wheat, etc. provided it is adjusted correctly. You need a operators manual for the machine so you can adjust it correctly.

A Corn-Bean Special will have risers on the walkers, steel finger guides instead of plastic on the feeder beater, some other improvements as well. Cylinder bars are the same as regular version- never seen any spike cylinders in this area. It certainly works fine for wheat- just get the op manual to get the settings that are recommended to start with. Probably also want the short tooth, round end chaffer instead of the long square tooth which is common for corn and soy. Either can work, but the short round is common for small grains like oats, wheat, barley. Cyl speed likely 7-1100 rpm, 3-4 concave bars, cyl about 3/8 inch open, low to mid range on the air setting, chaffer 1/2 inch, lower sieve 1/4-3/8 inch-(memory talking, not the book).

JM,

On dry-bean machines, oftentimes the concaves are half-round rubber, all the pertenant areas have dirt removal screens (raddle door, unloading auger, clean grain pan, elevator and elevator flip-doors); plus, the cylinder takes a slow-down kit to get it down around 150 rpm, which involves a chain drive at the cylinder.

Of course, it will still do wheat, but all these changes would have to be made to make it into a "standard/normal" machine.

Sorry for the incorrect information. I just found out it is a model E, not a B. It is driven from a cab, not pulled behind. It also says it is a Gleaner Baldwin made by Allis Chalmers. That is printed on the side. Combines are new to me living in Massachusetts.

Just a word to the wise: When we started selling the new E, customers were breaking the main drive belt coming off the 4 cylinder engine. The remedy was to keep the engine running at full throttle at all times.
