Help With Farmall Magneto Mounting

Hi all,

A couple questions-

How is the top of the magneto meant to be mounted?

And is this a Farmall A - Is the serial number the number by the gear stick I have pictured below?

I have been notified that the number I have pictured above is the casting number/part number. The serial number plate is missing on the tractor.

You are trying to attach a J4 magneto for a Cub to your A.

The correct mag is an H4. There's a variety of aftermarket mags that will fit, as well.

Engine serial number is stamped in machined pad visible above mag and below #1 spark plug on block, below head. Covered with paint?

This is how the mag on my Farmall is mounted.
Not looking forward to putting points in mine.
No clue where the timing marks are.
I'm planning on putting #1 on TDC, marking the location of mag on engine
and making sure distributor is pointing to #1 plug wire before taking mine off engine.
Hoping that will be ruffly where it needs to be before starting engine and putting timing light on #1.

The tractor serial is usually on the seat bracket near the axle housing. Ron MN

The number by the shift lever is the part number of the cover.
I believe some of the very early A's had the s/n tag down by the rt brake pedal. Worth a look.

Timing marks on flywheel and flywheel housing are (sort of) visible inside the opening underneath the flywheel housing after removing the cover plate under there.

As noted it is for a Cub. A clip could be fabricated to pull from the groove in the drive housing and pinch the mag flange. A setscrew or two threaded into the clip pushing forward on the flange might be operational. Jim

NICE theory, but the C113 engine doesn't have a threaded hole in the governor for your little clip, just a curved "ledge" like the J4 magneto!
