my 1942 h has a starter and a 6 volt battery period. no generator no regulators nothing, the 6 volt battery with a jump start barely turns it over and the cables are big, i've been told to put a 12 volt battery in it, will this starter handle a 12 volt also. also is it true that this is origonal equiptment and the battery never gets a charge.

My H was 6 volts, but did not crank it well, so I converted the tractor to 12 volts and use the 6 volt starter and it cranks over very well now.

Someone either added a battery and starter to a no electric tractor or the rest of the system has been removed. If it had a battery and starter, it had a generator.

If it has a mag, and no lights or generator, you can use a 12 volt for a long time as long as it starts fairly easily. Keep a charger handy. 12 volts will not hurt the starter.

we cant just tell you if it had electric start or not mayby it did mayby it didnt electric start was not standard equipment early production years i think
