Hercules Engine ID

Hoping somebody could help me confirm which is engine is in my Cockshutt 570. It is not the original and I thought it was a later model D298 since it has a Roosa Master pump mounted on the lower left (looking at the front of the engine.) The serial number is FG3410428. I have scoured the net for a serial number list but have come up dry. I would like to know what it is and how old it may be.

According to specifics stated on the techtips @cockshutt.com the 570 was produced with a Hercules 6 Cyl. 60.84 HP engine. It does not say Gas or Diesel,I assume it is a Gasoline powered engine with 298 Cu.In.. The later Super 570 was equipped with a 339 Cu.In. Hercules Diesel engine with some reported Dyno HP's of 80-90 HP.

Here are some pictures (I didn't paint it that color :-) ) As I mentioned before, this is NOT the original engine and I think because of the location of the injector pump that it is a later model D298. I am 99% sure it is NOT a 3400 series because it has the bolt-on covers on the side whereas the 3400 do not have these. If I am correct and it is a newer D298, I am just wondering when it was made because I believe Hercules made these right up until the end along side of the 3400.

Thanks for the help!

You can not go by your theory of it is a later model engine because of injection pump location. Roosa pumps were available from the start. Hercules was the first manufacture to use Roosa Master pumps way back in the early 50's. Now in the second picture where that flat boss is in the block see if there are numbers stamped there. Next get a model number off the pump. By the way some of those engines that have the front mounted pump are timed to #6 cylinder instead of number one. Do you have a casting number for the block?

J, point well taken. I was thinking of the ones that drove of the cam and were mounted in the distributor hole. I will get the rest of the information tonight. Thanks...

As requested, here is the information I could gather from the engine.

Block casting number: N29337554
Flat boss numbers: END298 and then below 3400428

Roosa Master Info:
Pump Model: DBG FC 633-12DB
Serial Number: 660419
Mfg Number: 292559
Set at 2800 rpm

Thanks in advance for the help.

Will check it out. Your END298 is your key number, of course it is set to run at 1150 more RPM than a 570. How do I contact you?
