Lance, I think you owe it to yourself to check out that link I sent you and at least talk to a recruiter. Take the ASVAB and see where you stand. You got nothing to lose but a little time and you'll prolly score a couple free meals while he/she sweettalks you.

Don't pay a lot of attention to these old goats that badmouth the service, most of them wore steel pots or campaign hats when they were in and base pay was less than a hundred bucks.
Guy with your energy should look real hard at the army or maybe marines. air Force are too snooty and you stand a good chance in the navy of being a butswabber or a dance partner for a lonely marine while at sea :roll:

I'm no longer a soldier and am no way a recruiter, just work with soldiers daily and see the goodies they get now.

Got sent through electronics, radar school, worked on aircraft, ate great food, no one shoots at you.. worked with great work area and great test equipment, and later became a sucessful communications engineer making over 6 figures. Trained for 8 months in beatiful Denver colorado, learn how to ski, and get drunk on moutain tops...
Wow... it was tough being a snob... the air force does have a bad rep as they only take ""edukated peopols"" The navy only takes feminine folks and the marines only take folks with criminal records or ADD problems.

And army... sleeping in beautiful tropical places, meeting all kinds of new interesting people, and then killing them.

I like being a snob if that means air conditioning and hd tv... I save the go back to nature crapola for when I'm haying or planting...

I'm not much on sleeping in mud in jungles and eating bugs and lyches.. so... yeah.. I'm a snob..

Go Texas Air National Guard... good enough for lil' Bush, and good enough for me. I worked on the Super Thud!!!! cause when it hit the ground, it went "THUD"!!!!!

btw.. the only fighting we did was, who got the best chocolate or strawberry dessert...(not desert)

Lanse, you could do a lot worse than the Guard or the Reserves or the active Military.

But... go in educated on what your choses are, make sure you test and then get a field and education process on your enlistment, and let uncle Sam pay the bill for a while. No worries why you get educated, get expierence and get paid.. and oh yes.. free room and board with a work atire furnished for free.

The only thing Lanse could have done but didn't was tell the person who lied to him how he felt and that he wasn't coming back. After hearing this guy yelling and screaming about something in another room, it's highly possible that that's why Lanse never talked to him. After already being lied to, does he really need to risk get yelled at too? Lanse didn't do anything wrong and some people on here think that this one bad experience is going to prevent Lanse from ever getting another job. That's ridiculous. The employer is the one that should be ashamed of what they did., not Lanse. He was completely justified.

I have no idea what it's like in the Armed Forces today. I got out in 1966. However, back in the day, the Navy was known for its iron men and wooden ships (well, okay, there weren't any wooden ships in the combat fleet when I was in).

Honestly, the Air Force was known as a bunch of weenies who could barely survive if they faced any adversity. Some Air Force guys came on a temporary assignment to Norfolk Naval Yard when I was there, and they whined all the time they were there. We had 80 man dorms and lockers that were just large enough for a sea bag. The fly boys wanted to know where their rooms were so they could hang their uniforms in their closets.

They really cried about standing midwatches. They thought that the APs should be doing that.

By the way, thanks for your service - just a little inter-service rivally fun.

I seem to remember you telling the same story Lanse is telling. You boss is stupid, cheap, a liar, don't know his @$$ from a hole in the ground. However he owned his own business, how about you?

I don't know how it is now but when I was in the "snob" force we had to pay for everything they gave us. When I got out they wanted my field jacket back. I told them no, not unless they were buying it back. I thought the woman was going to come unglued. When I pulled out the receipt where they deducted $60 from my pay for the jacket she had to get her supervisor. After I showed how I was charged for 6 pairs of black socks 6 pair of underwear, six t-shirts, 6 sets of fatigues, 1 green hat and a pair of boots they said oh. My wife still wears that jacket 26 years later.

Unfortunately there are some stupid, cheap and lying bosses out there. I do own my own business. I usually work alone but years ago when I hired a couple students to help me landscape and lay sod, they did such a good job that I paid them more than what they originally agreed to. They weren't complaining about getting a bonus.

I think that ya'll need to let up on Lance. I have been following him for many years and think he is a great young man. Would make a great crew chief on a c-17 or something better after a few years. Lance got hired under the pretense that he would be learning about welding, when they really hired him for cheap summer labor.

Lance sound a lot like me, only smarter. I had to do about 8 years of "free Lancing" before I got the whole pix. Then I got a real apprenticeship with GM and stayed there for 32 years. They didn't always tell the truth, but you gotta take the good with the bad, not sometimes but all the time. One time somebody asked about worst job. All my jobs were the worst and the best, only on different days. I did do military hitch and that was the top learning experience of my life. Now, retired and have 3 licenses for electrical including contractor; but all I can do now is TELL someone what to do SOMETIMES. No regret. Things always have to change. Thank the Lord you can accept it. Dave

So, lately, Ive been working on the trailer project some. I know Im behind in posting about it, but i will, and soon.

And a Talk Show?? Haha, Ive actually thought about making another youtube channel just for vlogs (video logs), since whenever I make a random little video that's not related to anything (welding, tractors, etc) and post it on my main channel, people dont seem to like it. Lots of people run at least two channels for that reason. If you guys will watch, Ill do it

I watched a few of his tractor videos because I thought they were funny. I also thought, OH GOD, HOW DID I EVER SURVIVE!?!?!? when I read the replies from the safety police.

I had a lot of ideas I would have liked to try at that age, still do actually. But if I wasn't working, dad was losing money. Trouble was we were losing money when we were working, but that's a moot point, I guess.

It's good to see someone with ideas and ambition being helped to develop them, rather than having it all being squashed.


Once I get some debt paid down I'll be trying a few of those ideas.
