I would like to take this oportunity to introduce myself. My name is Rusty (an old farm boy from north FL) Currently in Iraq with only 7 days to go and 20 months til retirement. I knew I would need a tractor and found this 8N on craigslist. She will be used to mow and also till the garden. I am a cheap skate and like to grow my own veggies. Thanks to the webmaster and all who have posted the info on this site as it has been very helpful.

Rusty.......remember, I&T MIL-Spec Tech-Order FO-4. $25 (cheap)

My son, USAF Capt is in the sandbox somewhere and has been extended (frown) Last email was raining MUD. His first email was about his engineering sensibilities were OFFENDED by poor crumbling concrete buildings.

My experience with overseas assignments is you can't gitt enuff FRESH salads. Recommend piggin'out on "Chef's Salads" when you gitt home. Thanks for being there .......Dell

Hang in there Rusty, and welcome to the site.
A wealth of info here.
On behalf of all the Canadians on here, let me just say, you guys are the BEST.
To all the service men and women from the U.S. and Canadian Military in Iraq and Afganistan, God bless you all and be safe my friend. We are all very gratefull for all you do.

Thank You and my prayers will be with your son. Yes it rains mud over here and man it stinks when it does.

Thank you!!! A bit of a caution about "tilling" The Nseries tractors have to high ground speed to run a typical 3 pt tiller. If you mean plow and disc or harrow then then it will serve you well. Come home safe ---lotsa N's out there.

Come home safe

Thank You Mark. Yeah I meant plow and disc harrow but I had thought about a tiller so that will save me a lot of duckies. Info and sharing on this site is great. Thanks again.

Yep, you're so short you can do a swan dive off the edge of a dime....so short you need a ladder to pick strawberries! You guys still have short-timers calendars? Probably not like the ones we had in V-N!

You'll like the N. Easy to work on & dependable. Lots of good advice on this board as well. And, a lot of vets who might tell a war story every now & then!

Check out tip # 39; a good set of manuals will save you a lot of time & money.

Thank You Bruce. I appreciate the advice. I grew up with VN vets and welcome your stories anytime you need me to lend an ear. oh yeah 6 days and a wake up LOL I am getting all the manuals but it seems like my best one is right here in the forum from folks like you. Again Thanks! Rusty

SFCA:
God bless you for serving our country - THANK YOU!
I use my 8's for plowing & then dragging the garden plot - works fine - as others say rototilling will not work with an 8N unless it has the rare Howard tranny addition, which lowers ground speed without lowering the PTO revs.
Welcome to the board & get home safe!
