hi guys i been hitting the steam and tractor shows all summer and well some are small and the walkings not going to kill me some are vary large and with 2 kids in a wagon me and my wife get a real workout. so im thinking of building one of them little trucks that i see running around shows with the lawn mower motor and and tranny. so not to the ??? anyone got any plans for the frame or body or anything or am i on my own here. thanks guys

Mike, Sorry no plans here butttttttttttttttttt one of the most fun things I observe at shows is the assortment of all sorts of homemade ride arounds.... Theres hardly no two alike, Ive seen 4 wheel drive articulated w/duals wheel horses n about everything imagineable. The absolute MOST Ive seen are at Florida Flywheelers.

BUTTTTTT I dislike (n so do many others) the real loud n noisy ones soooooooo use a good muffler system is my advice. Also a good umbrella sun shade system/cover/umbrella is a must for your riders comfort. DO NOT make it too wide is my next advice n again QUIET. I like front n rear lights on mine. NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE but I personally dislike Gators n all the other big n wide huge cart/vehicles/mules etc cuz they are toooooo dern wide n noisy (wider n louder then say a golf cart) in my opinion lol

One other thing if you make it like an exhibit (restore an old wheel horse etc) you may still be able to ride around in it where golf carts or lawn mowers are prohibited??

Farm Show magazine, which is available on line, usually has a couple of articles in each issue of homebuilt or modified people carriers for shows and such. Might take a look at that.

I don't want to offend anyone, so take this as it's meant. A general comment, not specifcally pointed to anyone. And I'm sure not talking about people who have genuine disabilities and need some help.
I see lots of people riding around on lawn mowers & carts that would be a whole lot better off if they were to walk. I totally agree with John T about the width and noise issues. Sometimes you can hardly carry on a conversation for the racket. A lot of times I see the same outfit repeatedly circling through the shows, never stopping to look at anything. I find this annoying when you have to constantly watch to keep from getting run over. I really like to look closely at the tractors and engines, etc. to appreciate the work that's gone into restoring them. It seems this problem is getting more and more severe in the last few years. I know that some exhibitors don't really have a place to run their equipment except at shows and I'm not talking about that either.
Please don't take this personnally anyone. There's a great group of guys and gals on this forum and I don't want to hurt any feelings, it's just my opinion.

im with you guys on all the noise and stuff this last week i was at a show and a old galf cart was running around and smoking bad so no junk from me. Paul 1 of the reason for building this is i buy to much stuff from vendors. the show i went to last week i had to park 1/2 mile from the show and we rode a wagon to the grounds but i made 9 trips back to the truck taking things i picked up. im not going to be taking this thing to every show just the bigones i like to walk the shows myself but my box is 17 months and my girl is 6yr they are not going to walk around all day and noone is going to help carry dads stuff.

The show I went to this year seemed to have an overabundance of JD 110 lawn mowers with tricycle front ends running around.

Having a handicap sticker and an electric wheelchair really helps me. I don't know how one can complain about noise at a tractor show the only quiet things are the steam engines.
