Homlite Hedge Trimmer

Does anyone know how to work the spring in a Homelite hedge trimmer . I'm talking about the spring that makes the start rope pull back in . I had to replace the rope and now I don't know how to put the tension on the spring in order to make it pull the rope back in . The spring never flew ( became unravled ) apart ,it's still coiled up ,I just need to wind it back in order to put tension on it in order to make the rope pull back in . Also, does anyone know the ratio of oil to gas for a Weedeater brand gas powered blower ? I thought that it was 42:1 . It's an old blower about 10 years old .I will also post this on the tool forum . Thank you for all and any help.

Thank you ,

Also , does anyone know where I can find a schematic / breakdown of any Homelite or Weedeater brand powertools like you can lawnmowers and their engines ? Or has Homelite been out of buisness to long for there to be manuals still available for it ? Thanks again for your help .

Thanks ,

With rope off wind the spring in the direction of pull until tight.Tie knot in one end of rope keep tension on spring put rope through hole in starting assembly and through hole where rope comes out of trimmer, put handle on rope keep tension on spring tie knot in rope. That should do it.CLEAR AS MUD.GOOD LUCK.

Do you have any model numbers/serial numbers off the unit. I have a lot of manuals and fiche cards but need some numbers. Gary

The Trimmer is a Homelite HT-21 Hedge Trimmer . It has Homelite / Textron on the sticker along with - UT # 18011 and Serial # HN0650654. There is no way to wind the spring up while the plastic piece that the rope goes on is inside the cap like on a pushmower engine. The plastic piece that holds the rope has to come out as the rope ties off behind the plastic cap . The spring sets in a metal cage deal that holds the spring in place , kind of like the plumbers drain cleaning snake but it's open on one side and now the spring has come completely out of the cage . Is there a tool for this problem ? Or any tricks.

Thanks ,
