I sent my wife over to honda to pick up NEW EU2000.When she got home the bill of sale showed it to be 2007 and no owners manual. Two weeks ago they were out of stock,it looks to be new. What would you guys do,have a come apart or stop payment on the check. Thanks KEN

Ask them to get you a manual. Or just search the Honda generator website. The maunal is probably on line. Sounds like you should be glad to have a gen if they are all sold out. Should be no problems with warrantee IF you hang on to the reciept.

If it has sit around for 3 years and has not used, I would take it back. My experience with new motors that have set that long and not used, has not been good. You are just inviting problems.

Get it in writing that the dealer will honour the warranty from the purchase date. I think a lot of the power equipment could be older stock but as long as it's the same as the new model with the same warranty shouldn't matter too much. You could ask for a bit of a discount and see what they say. Dave

I never buy out-of-the-box items for this very reason. There will always be something you don't get. It might be an included tool or gauge for some adjustment, the operators and/or parts manuals, warranty registration card, etc.

Go back and tell the "dealer" that this isn't negotiable. At the very least you want the manuals and registration form. Whatever he "guarantees" you about being covered under any warranty is always trumped by written documentation from the manufacturer. His word essentially means nothing. Even if he or she truly is a stand-up individual, any verbal agreement they make with you is only between them and you. Doesn't hold water anywhere else.

Honda makes fine machinery, but they are very detail-oriented when it comes to providing warranty service. They WILL NOT cover stuff that truly isn't a warranty issue. There are quite a few posts elsewhere on the 'net from disgruntled owners that *feel* something should be covered, even if they know, (after looking through the literature they got when they made the purchase), that it really shouldn't.

As long as you haven't used it for a power outage or something. During our ice storms, people use them for a day and try to scam them and take them back and most places won't take them once they have oil and gas put in them.

I tried a 7 years old never used coleman generator with tecumseh engine last year. Had a gasket between the engine blocks that dried out and leaked. Had to fill it with oil every time I filled it with gas for about 7 days. After the power outage, spent $125 getting it fixed and now it still leaks.

Last winter after a 7 day outage, we did buy a 5000 watt generator when they restocked at home cheapo. Got to the farm and they were putting up new poles down the road. Decided to go ahead and keep it anyway.

Manuals can be downloaded from the Honda Generator website. I downloaded and printed the manual for my 2500 Honda generator.

Son bought the generator new and never put oil or gasoline in the engine; he just stored it for 10 years and never used it so he gave it to me.

I put in oil and gas; it took 6 pulls on the rope to start the engine. Unit works just great.

I wouldn't do the "Come apart". Running without oil is obvious on tear down and you will likely be stuck with a 07 model year with a ruined engine. Most of them have low oil shut down anyway.

Just tell them you want the manual.
They'd be pretty slack if that cheque hasn't cleared by now... so you can count that one out.
Warranty should be from date of purchase and I wouldn't worry about it sitting around for a couple years.

You can download the manualonline. You will be very hapy whit the EU2000. We have one and two years ago we had an ice storm and power was out for three days. The generator ran or furnace, the frigde, tv, and a couple of lights, and only used about a gallon of gas per 16 hours.I really don't have a need for a generator any bigger.

If a 'come apart' is running the engine, without oil, just to turn it in for warranty is just as good as stealing in my book

Bunch of sh!t

If come apart means something else, never mind
