Thanks Don for the quick responce. Could you also tell me the horse power of this machine? And how else can I be sure its a 1944 D model

thanks Jason

From 1938-1953, serial nubers were 7 digit. Take the first 2 digits of the serial and subtract 4. Ex. 4812345 = 48-4= 1944.

The D at the end of the serial number denotes the model.

According to Nebraska Tractor Test #349 using distillate shows 26.78 drawbar hp and 33.45 brake hp.

Jason,
Look on the engine flange where it bolts onto the transmission housing on the left side of the tractor. The engine serial number is stamped into the edge along with the model letter. It should be the same as the dash plate serial number if it is the original engine. Don

I see where you got your numbers - but maximum observed belt hp was 35.36 and 30.67 on the drawbar - corrected hp was 37.45 on the belt and
33.03 on the drawbar.

The gas model running 100 rpms slower turned in 37.28 observed belt hp and 33.06 observed drawbar hp. and 38.62 corrected belt hp and 34.08 corrected drawbar hp.

Just for my own info- I thought the D's came with less HP than the DC's plus the smaller tires. Is that not true?

The Nebraska tests.

Go to http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/tractormuseumlit/
use windows find and enter 1940 and then find the model you wish to look at.

http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/tractormuseumlit/

use brower to find 1940 - the d distilate and dc gas are in 1940.
