Dug the old clatter-banger diesel out of the trees today after it has sat there for a year now. Started right up without assist and A/C is blowing cold as can be.

Didn't even have any mice in the old clanker; what's up with that? :>)

Gotta go out and see if I can scrape up some wheat seed from that 10-15 acres I left standing. With seed at $10-$11 a bushel, guess it is worth the effort. :>(

Might cut faster if you put a belt on the reel.
Those Gleaners are tuff machines. Best thing about them is duct tape matches their color! I ran an F with a gas motor and an L diesel. The straw chopper on the F was a bit of a pain if there were many weeds in the wheat. The motor in the L was great. Both of them had the variable speed belt setup. I think I would have liked the L a lot better if it would have been a hydro unit. Have fun. Most of the wheat here in South Central Ks. didn't do very well.

Yes Sir,

I just finished swapping out the heads on 'er from the pickup head I used last year in the swathed oats.

This one is a diesel hydro; not as nice as the F2 I used to have, but at least it gets the job done and ya can't wear 'em out. :>)

Great machines. I grew up on a Gleaner/Baldwin A. I'll never forget the excitement the year that dad traded it for an F with cab/air. That was a big deal!!

That's a slick looking setup. I've never seen one around here like that. Do you run a swather ahead of that, then pick up the windrow for the seed? Something else that I thought of on those F machines. Seems like we were never stuck in the mud. If it dropped into a soft spot we were always able to get it backed out by working it a little.

If the small grain crop is weedy, then it has to be swathed to let the weeds dry down. Had some Lambsquarter last year and just couldn't straight cut it that way.

Also used in combining dry edible beans which are always windrowed.

That makes sense. When I was about 7 yrs old one of the neighbors planted about 20 acres of Mung beans. He hired me to go through the field and chop out the weeds. I think he paid me about $30 and I thought I was rich!! Anyway I remember that he used a swather with a belt in the header instead of an auger and no crimper to cut them. Then I think he used a bean header on the combine using the pickup reel to get as much up as he could. He only planted them that one year.
