Dubya claimed yesterday that he didn't know nothing about the gas prices going up anymore toward $4 per gallon.

Don't be as concerned with price as much as with affordability. Much better for gas to be $5/gal with a job/income than $2/gal with no job/income.If the prices fall it means less demand which means there are a lot less people that can afford it most like because they don't have as much income.

Printing money was what caused all of our problems in the 70s. Nixon,Ford and Carter all financed their deficits that way. Reagan was credited with turning things around with tax cuts. That WASN'T it. He stopped inflation and high interest by borrowing money instead of printing it. Trouble is,it was supposed to be temporary,until congress got a handle on spending. We all know how that turned out though,don't we?

We were talking about that in the coffee shop the other day. The neighbor said in 1970 he had a new mobile home,a two year old car and two babies on a salary of $50 a week. I drove milk truck for $20 a day and I bought half the gas. Expenses are all relative to what you make.

I remember a political cartoon from the Reagan years--Reagan and Tip O'Neill (didn't Tip get hung up on money charges??) were arguing. Reagan was yelling "Borrow, Borrow, Borrow, Spend!!" and O"Neill was yelling "Tax, Tax, Tax, Spend!!"...

I tend to agree with you. But you forgot to mention all the people that pay five dollars for a cup of Starbucks coffee.

And why is gas cheaper here than in any other country?

Supply and demand dictates price, not the president. China is booming and so is India. They need a lot more commodities. That is why the price of cement and other building materials have gone up in price.

My state had a sales tax of 4% for years & years. The powers in office one year got an increase to 5% passed - they swore over & over it was just temporary to get through tough time, only 1 year - had a sundown date in it and everything, only going to be short term.

One year later, the sales tax was set at 6%. I guess they kept their promise, the 5% was only temporary.

We are at 7.5% now. State faces biggest buget crunch in years, they already are planning to add .3% tax for wildlife & artsy stuff if we vote for it, fuel tax increased 8.5 cents a gallon, it's all good news, and all temporary.

No worries, the govt will take care of you.

The nnalert in my state took over a year ago.

Personal income tax increased a billion dollars. Last week they voted in a 6 billion dollar tax increase. But like you said, it's only temporary.

That is also where our wheat is going. I just heard that flour mills are not going to have high gluten flour in a month or so and all these guys that waited to sell their wheat are going to help China and India both of which have a wheat shortage and will pay almost anything for it. Its way past me when american companies(WELL, MAYBE THE LARGE CONGLOMERATES ARENT CONTROLLED BY AMERICANS ANY MORE) will sell their products and leave their countrymen stranded. We are in for some big surprises in the next few years.

Farmers get more for their product now because there is a higher worldwide demand for it. Anybody in business will sell their products and services to the highest bidder.

Geez,you only pay 8.5 cents fuel tax? We pay 19 cents PLUS 6% sales tax on the fuel AND on the 19 cents fuel tax!

Perfect example of rumor, etc. read the post....the INCREASE is 8.5 cents. Frankly, I do not have a problem with that- we"ve had the same gas tax rate for 20 years in MN, inflation rears it"s ugly head, but it does exist, and our roads are crumbling..my personal opinion has nothing to do with the famous bridge collapse-
