How Far Will a Grain Vac Pull Corn?

I have 2 18 ft, 4000 bu Gov't Bins. If I put a 8 in tube in to the middle of the bin, left the end open, would a grain vac suck out the grain in the tube or is that too far for it. Trying to think of a cheap way to get corn out without buying unload auger. Would this work? Thanks, Chris

Yes it will work your grain vac hose won't have to go in the tube clear to the center of the bin. It will just have to seal in the end so it can't suck air. That is how we take the corn out of all of our bins with 6in. tubes under them. We took out the flighting and have a flare on the vac end it only has to stick in about 2in. to seel. It is alot faster then the augers in them tubes used to be . We still use an auger on our 8in. and 10 in .sump bins . If your pipes have a good seal you can suck grain a long way We have sucked over 150ft. and can fill a semi with corn in about 20 minutes.

They are exactly right. That is how we load many trucks. Then once the corn level gets below the door then you can open the door and then just bury the tube in the corn and that still goes pretty quick. Grain Vac beats the h*ll out of using unloading augars and sweeps in the bin.

No it won't work.I have 25 years experience with a vac.You must have air flow for the grain to move in.Stick the inlet in a pile of grain without it being able to also draw air and the vac will just howl like a dog and you will have a pipe full of grain and a plugged vac.Mark

Yes it will work the vac does have to have air that and it will get most of it with the corn . the rest it can get threw the air metering hole in hand held pipe section On a DK 1050 and a handleair 560 they need very little air to be let in the metering hole We have also used it to suck corn out of a plugged sump where deep water enterd the bin. We have been using grain vac since 1982 and move 120000 bushels a year That way. Mike w J

Mike w J has it right, it will work. I know of several grain terminals pulling samples from truck probes up to 1000ft throught a 3in line.
Granted, we are talking small volumes. I would recomend regulating the volume of grain entering the air stream. You'll be fine
