How many remember the date you joined the service

Joined 18th Jan 1980.
Arrived at FT Knox KY for boot camp 10th June 1980.
Served 6 years as an 19E/19K Armor Crewman on M60A2, M60A3 and M1 Abrams tanks.

Signed the paperwork at AFEES (Armed Forces Entrance and Examination Station) Detroit, February 27th, 1969, and bussed to Great Lakes from there.

"Joined" while a Senior in high school in the Spring of 1968 on the Delayed Entry program with a guaranteed Electronics school based on my ASVAB scores.

March 14, 1968, although I actually signed up 120 days before that, they had a delay program that I liked so I had time to sell cars and sort of get ready.

27 Apr. 1969 USAF to 27 Apr. 1973, left Mexico as E5 SSGT
My foreign duty consisted of Texas and Mexico. (Wichita Falls and Laredo) Nothing like being shot at on home turf, more than 1 time.

You got there as I was finishing basic. Was there when Mt. St Helens blew.
HQ&HQ Troop, 3/5 Cav, FT Lewis was my first duty assignment when I finished basic/AIT in Sept. The squadron was still doing a lot of flights in and around St Helens when I got there. The troop that I was with had a platoon of 4 tanks and 3 M107 mortar tracks. Our job was to provide security around base camps for the flyboys and their helicopters.
