How much is a 430 worth?

There was one on e-bay that I bid on and didn"t win. Well, it seems the buyer backed out and he is offering a second chance offer. It"s a nice looking little tractor. Someone at some point repainted it. The hood is a little dented other than that it looks fine. But here is the kicker. 1rst and reverse are gone. The engine has a knock and smokes. And the lift arms work but the pto doesn"t. The tires with spin-out wheels look to be in good condition. I only bid $140 on it. I was figuring the highest I could go is $400. I recently had my TE-20 rebuilt and that was just under 3k. I was figuring the tranny could be up there too. I don"t want to spend too much on something that will take a good bit to fix. Am I close or would I be low-balling him? I just wanted to get the thoughts of someone that knew more about these tractors.

Be cautious of the second chance offer. If it's near you, it's worth going to look at in person. Even if you can get it for 400, it will probably part out for way more even if you don't feel like messing around with it. For him to be selling, it's either junk, or he doesn't know its true value.

400 bucks? what? I can't get a front weight set for 500, a rim for 200, a rear end for 500, etc, etc...

seriously, that sounds like a fake auction.

No, he didn"t offer it for $500. Its a dealer that got it as a trade in and wants to get it gone. He never offered me a price. He gave me that typical used car question "Make me an offer". But i"m not willing to pay a lot for something that I will have to rebuild an engine and or transmission. I forgot to mention it isn"t a tricycle or the little one. I think it is a "w" or something of the such. I was just interested in it as something to play with.

There is a lot of advice on ebay, one is that the 2nd chance offer is frequently a scam. You should tell the guy to relist it and then he will get what it is worth. Could it be that the reason the guy backed out is because the seller was using a shill bidder? Bob

trying to figure this ebay thing out.if you bid $140 and you were the second highest bidder(hence the second chance offer)what did the tractor sell for?

About $250 is all it's worth. By the time she's returned to respectable but not factory condition. You will have more in parts alone into it that what's she's worth.
Any exotic options? Remote hydraulics, spin outs, power steering, live pto/5 speed, HD three rib fenders, float ride seat. If it has all those buy it .

I wasn't the second highest bidder. I think he's desprate to sell and just offered it to all the bidders. I'm not about to be scammed. I only pay cash upon pick up. The action ended at a little over $2000. I know I can get a nice tractor in decent shape to restore.

cash on the 430 it went for 2125 I had talked to the seller before it ended I would have got it, but its 1000miles from me ,it has fixable problems the man seemed to now his tractors If you can get for 140 and dont like it ,iwill double you money or shoot me his # I had it during the aution but lost it.. Email address attached

I figured as much that this is a scam. Yesterday my suspissions were confirmed when he said he was currently in U.K. and needed me to send the payment there. I've been on there way too long to fall for something this easy. I can't believe people actually fall for this stuff. I wish I had some kind of virus to send him so I could fry his hard drive.

Can anyone provide me with some information as to where I can confirm my 1959 430 U is authentic with its Brass Tag? It has at least 90% of the options available for 1959.

2 years ago when I purchased this tractor, the JD rep. where I bought it from said the brass tag on it was authentic. When I brought it home, the local JD rep. said the same thing, even from 2 different states.

How do I go about validating its authenticity in the event I ever do sell it? The serial number matches for the year 1959. A few have said my tractor can"t have a brass tag, but it most assuredly does! What to do????
