How we cleaned

Several folks asked,some genuinely wanted to know,some want to point out everything we did wrong, how we cleaned that head up. We pulled the head off, sprayed it with purple power,hot pressure washer, dropped it in a tub of vinegar for a couple days,hot pressure washer and into a tub of old motor oil. Pressure washed again,blew it dry , removed all the valves,cleaned them carefully with a brass brush on a Dremel. Lapped the valves. Used a brass bristle brush on a drill to clean the rocker arm assembly. Oiled it ,made sure oil oozed out everywhere is was supposed to. Keep in mind, Renee is in the shop too ,she is working on one part while I work on another. So...... technically we had 4 "man" hours in it over several days ( when you count soaking and pressure washing) . We also pressure washed the block out, tons of sludge, rust and mud in there. Oil pan came off, sludge cleaned out of it , too. We keep detailed records of what we do,and give a copy of those records to the customer. We ain't hiding anything. And folks are impressed and surprised at what we accomplished

Absolutely not..... total of 2 hours actually working on it. 4 hours if you want to count the fact it was 2 of us.

Just my humble opinion but anyone needing an apology over this old fa..rt drama needs to get over themselves.

all i referred to was no way your going to do what you said you did in 2 hrs. pulling a head from a dead rusty tractor and have it running in 2 hrs. i also know cleaning is very time consuming. you need a time clock to punch in and out . no, i dont need any apology. i have done this very same work many times and it basically a good part of a days job.

Let the arm chair mechanics think what they want to. Sounds to me like you have around 4 man hours total time in working on it. gee wiz, by the naysayers thinking, if you worked on it 30 minutes then quit for the day and came back 12 hours later you have to count the 12 hours as time on project. Keep up the good work!

I am impressed but no longer surprised.

I've always been of the opinion that; if it accomplishes the intended goal, it's not wrong. It may not be the way I would do it, but then, who's to say that I'm doing it right??? I enjoy seeing your projects.

pretty amazing the vinegar bath. before the greenie weenies, a hot tank in caustic soda did the cleanup. but it would eat the cam bearings. great job!!

You guys do both impress me and make me tired just hearing how much work you get into doing these things. I do figure with your experience it doesn't take you long to have one running.

grandpa love, you mentioned using vinegar to clean the cylinder head. I've used it to clean small parts but I've always discarded it after words. Obviously your using a large amount of vinegar to clean these parts. Does it keep it's strength through lots of parts? Do you do anything to neutralize it after soaking it? Just wondering.

We keep it in a plastic tub, use it a few times and then dump it on the fence line. We hot pressure wash the parts after soaking. We use purple power and dawn dish soap
