Hydraulic lift

I just recently bought a YM220 that has sat under a shelter for a couple of years. I got it started easy enough but the lift will raise but will not lower...Any suggestions?

There should be a stop valve in the seat area. Make sure it's open.

Otherwise, I think this site has a tech-tip article on the hitch.

On second thought, I've not heard of a 220 (not that I've heard of everything). It wouldn't be something like an F220, would it?

The 2500 has it. Fred. doesn't show it either. Here's a good guess? Is there a flat Knob under the front of the seat that is connected to the control valve? Make sure it isn't shut. That would be a good reason why! and it's doing it's job if shut. Again a guess...... Basicly the same thing that Allen is refering to <E>:wink:</E>

Comon for yanmar Yes. But it still does not answer the question if the 220 does have the Stop Valve ? For some reason seems to be hard to find the part # or a pic. of the YM220. May not be there. Hopefully the OP may Clarify his setup.

Yes, the 220 has a stop valve. That is the only hydraulic valve it does have. That is the service manual I have. As I have stated in past posts I use that valve as a slow return &amp; stop valve. It is a combination on the 220. Some don't seem to believe me but it is listed as just that. Also works that way on my ym2002. Guess that is why they sent me the service manual for the 220/226. Have you had a considerable amount of weight on the lift when it won't lower?

Here it is. Not a parts drawing because it comes out of a service manual but it does identify things. Hope it helps you. Sorry about the quality. When I scan the file is to large to upload. When I down size the image it becomes unclear. Will answer any quistions about the drawing if needed. Anyone know how I can overcome the uploading problem?

Thank everyone for the information. I tried turning the lift control valve to the open position but the lift still would not lower. I'm thinking the control valve itself may be stopped up. I'm hoping I can free it w/o having to remove the lift cover...but I won't get a chance to look at it until thursday. Thanks again for the help.

Still can't confirm this without seeing the Control Valve. There should be a plunger on the other end of the valve that controls your lift up or down. If you push the plunger In the lift will raise, Out lets it fall or lower. If the plunger does not come out (It's Stuck). Should be able to remove it and try to free it up. If not there's not much to it mostly O-rings, spring and a Piston. With checking this your find the prob. May just have to free up the sticking/Stuck Piston. I believe your get it figured out now. Knowing how it works. <E></E>

Today was the first chance I've had to work on the tractor. As it turns out, the lift was just stuck. I worked with the lift lever &amp; the lift control valve while physically raising &amp; lowering the lift arms and it eventually started working. Easy fix this time. Thanks for everyone's input.

If it was mine I would run for a while check for leaks If none Serv.the Trans Hyd Fluid and Filters. JD 303 should be a little over 4 Gal. And your Be good. Also prob. time for Fuel Filter, Raid Flush and Air Filter. <E>:wink:</E>

I am a little confused here (and a lot of other places that have nothing to do with tractors). On my YM1810 I have two valve controls. One is the star wheel (That I've never used in the twelve years I've owned it since I've been told it is to regulate the speed of ascent and descent of the lift.), and the other is a lock that I use quite often in locking the lift in the raised position if I'm spreading fertilizer or sand. I don't know the configuration of an F220, but I would be sure be sure to check that there is a locking mechanism that has been engaged.

Actually the star wheel down by your feet is the servicing lock, and the small lever under the seat is the drop speed control lever.
