Hydraulic Problems with John Deere 2355

I have a John Deere 2355 that has one hydraullic valve with two outlets on the back. When I hook up hay rake that has one cylinder with two hydraulic lines, the tractor will pick up the rake, but will not let it back down. The rake works fine on other tractors (kubota, international. Can anyone tell me why the John Deere tractor will not operate the hay rake?

Reverse the hoses and see if the problem stays the same.
Does the 2355's scv's work ok with other equipment?.

I have reversed the lines and no change. The tractor works fine with hay mower, but the cylinder on the hay mower has only one hydraulic line.

Possible ball in receptacle isn't getting pushed off it's seat to allow oil flow or hyd valve not working properly in both directions.

Need to check both receptacles with a gauge.

Does your 2355 have the more expensive(poppet type) SCV or the economy style(spool type)?

I would look to see how the SCV is plumbed It is possible that return oil is being sent to the ported filter base to allow oil back to the front pump faster as a result the return oil will be at trans. pump pressure and a single acting cylinder will not have enough force to overcome thispressure to retract.I had this issue on an 1830 and ended up installing a kit with shift valve that would divert return oil either to the filter base or sump. This allowed the customer to run a log splitter with a large double acting cylinder or markers on his drill satisfactorily. This kit might still show in parts or you could change the return oil path (back to sump) as long as you don't have a high volume requirement from your SCV, Bob

If I read Alabama Farmer's post correctly a single acting cyl works correctly but double acting won't.

(quoted from post at 11:09:34 09/13/10) The tractor has the economy style(spool type)SCV.

How many hrs on tractor? I still think diagnosing with a pressure gauge is your only answer. On spool type valve there are only seals and a few parts available but no spools or ind bodies so if valve is the problem a complete spool valve is the only option.
AL34595 SELECTIVE CONTROL VALVE ADD 450.00 USD and this is actually 1/2 of an operating valve.

I have a 1992 2355 JD industrial tractor. The hudraulics just quit working all of a sudden. The tractors runs good and pto works. The three point and loader will not work. the power steering works but is jerky and rough. The sfaft going into the hyd. pump is turning at same speed as engine.

Any ideas?

Look closer at the pump shaft, you can only see about 1 inch of the actual pump shaft, clean it and paint a white mark on it to see for sure, the woodruff key could be sheared off...some times the only way to be sure is to remove it...
