Hi folks , i'm looking for info on a hydraulic pump to run off my pto belt driven pulley on the bottom of my ford yt16 small yard tractor , i built a small tractor with a bucket on it from a sears craftsman mower , now i am interested in building one on my ford , i got some of this info from a site loaderplans.com . Any info on a small hyd pump , plans say it needs to be 4-8 gpm 750 psi and can use a 2" bore cylinder with that set-up , anyway , thanks in advance , Scott

I will do some looking maybe tonight. as I will be back later on. You have the best of several worlds. I will also send you an e-mail and then I can send you some pump literature. I used to teach some pump classes and had the literature for those classes. and now I am cleaning house and getting rid of it. J.

I think that a power steering pump would be a good choice because it is designed for side-loading (belt driven) and has its own reservoir built in. I'd choose something off of an older full-size car or pick up truck from GM. Grab the entire mounting bracket system at the same time and then adapt that to mount onto whatever engine is in your tractor. You may have to either increase the size of the pulley driving this pump or reduce the size of the pulley on the pump to get the sort of response you're looking for.

All you'll need is the pump, cylinder and an open-center control valve.

might have what you need, also the cylinders if they don't have to be too long. and lots of hydro steering boxes if you want to put p/s on it. my # is 325 642 7647. also have small two-way valves.

True. But now you have to find a place to mount the reservoir and it must be mounted higher than the pump. In other words, either pump style brings its own problems to the table.

True. But the remote resivoir ones can be mounted in any position. Like on end driven by a vertical shaft engine.

Ahhhh. You got me there. Never thought about vert shaft engine. I"m old school. Everything I own is horizontal shaft, the way nature intended it to be. LOL

Yeah work great on vert shaft engines, just mount the pump under the engine mount plate and the res over top of it.

Also lots of used vert shaft engines around. Horizontal shaft ones are getting hard to find cheap/free.

Hey J, read your post about pumps. I'm putting power steering on my David Brown 880 and need select a pump. Should be about 2 gpm, 1200 PSI, any advice on what I should be looking for?
