Hydraulic Pump

I have a 1951 Ford 8N that has a noisey hydraulic pump. The pump works i.e. the arms go up and down but it has a knocking noise. What is causing this and what is the fix?

This is a very common problem with the Ns. It is wear in the pistons of the pump. Most folks say run it till it quits since a pump reubild is kind of spendy. Do a search of the archives and you'll see just how common this is.

Yep.. as BB said.. when they get a lil wear. they knock.

Worry more about it when it stops knocking.
