just pickedup 8n hydro fluid looked like milk flushed refilled no lift power will try upper rebuild any advice what parts or what to look for pto works has to be water damage

" has to be water damage " Really? What does the water do, rot the piston? :)

I think I'd diagnose the problem before I assumed a cause & repairs needed.

You could have a bad friction disc, stuck/dirty exhaust valve, a blown top cover gasket, a leaky pressure relief valve or the control rod is loose from the pump. Take the inspection plate w/ the dipstick off. Reach in & make sure the control rod is connected. If it is, move the touch control lever & make sure it moves the control rod. If the control rod is connected & the touch control lever doesn't move it, the friction disc might be bad.

If the arms drop w/ the tractor off or the clutch depressed, chances are you have a worn lift cylinder or piston (or both), a blown top cover gasket or a leaky pressure relief valve. Take the inspection plate w/ the dipstick off. Lift a heavy implement & look inside w/ the tractor running & the PTO engaged to see if you notice oil running from the top cover. If oil is running steadily from the top cover the chances are the lift cylinder needs to be rebuilt. It’s less likely, but a possibility, that the top cover gasket is bad. (It’s very difficult to detect the exact source of the oil leaking inside of the top cover while looking through the inspection port). If no oil is running down from the top cover, look at the rear of the pump in the oil with the load still on it and see if you notice turbulence in the bottom. (Some movement of oil will be normal with the PTO shaft turning). You could have a weak pressure relief valve which will be detected by turbulence in the oil. To check for a slow leak, lift a heavy implement, turn the tractor off & put a ½ inch clear plastic hose on the end of the valve & stick the other end of the hose through the inspection port. With pressure in the pump, a bad valve will likely show some fluid in the hose.

Once you actually diagnose the problem w/o guessing, post back for repair suggestions.

Only way water will cause damage is if it froze at some point but it the lift worked before you change the fluid and does not now I would check what you your self did. Fluid to low?? PTO not engaged, etc. Trouble shoot before throwing parts at it or your problem will not go away it will get worse. First off pull the right side inspection plate, fluid should come out of the lowest bolt hole by the way if it is full. Then start the engine with the PTO engaged and watch for fluid movement. If you see fluid moving that is the area of the problem. I-T FO-4 manual is almost a must have to do the job

(quoted from post at 13:44:03 08/02/11) thanks ill pull insp cover from the start i had no lift
o best you can to find problem while still assembled, as there are not many clues once taken apart.
I repeat, Do best you can to find problem while still assembled.

Maybe stuck control valve????

Reach in and try to move the long decending rod that connects to the control valve down in the oil and see if you can move it back and forth with your hand. Try it with the touch control lever at several different settings on the quadrant.

If you get it to move then start the engine with the PTO engaged and do the same thing.

Post what you find.
