Hello all, The above pic is of my fuel pump on a 3444 backhoe/loader i got. Two pics as the pic was on m,y phone and is easy to load. I will not try to type on a phone.
Fuel tank is loaded with black chunky stuff which clogs everything. I am working on draining- flushing it out. The pump may well be partially clogged as the float valve in carb was plugged solid. So, I think I need to clean the pump. Can it be done? How? just back flush? with compressed air?

Also, phase 2- can the output volume of this pump be adjusted? Machine will run. I changed the oil and took out almost 4 gallons of thin gassy smelling oil left by previous owner. I think maybe it is pumping so much gas it is diluting crankcase oil.
Any help here greatly appreciated

Cap comes off the bottom of the pump with a partial turn. You should then be able to clean it. There's no adjustment on the pump. Hopefully it's a low pressure pump. (5-6 PSI) A clean carb will handle that no problem. There are pumps like that which are commonly used in aircraft with fuel injection so they are higher pressure, say 30 PSI. A carb will NOT handle that. Once you get it cleaned a pressure test might be in order.

yes -just as you said -it was loaded with sludge. there is a built n magnet which captured a pile of crap. there is a lot of crap coming out the top, high pressure side. I guess I will just have to run it to flush it out.
How to do a pressure test? I don't think I have anything to test that. any advice?
and thanks

ps If I should wind up buying a replacement, isn't volume as important as psi ?

Hook a gauge to the output side. Even the tiniest fuel pump will have enough volume for that engine.
