I hate working on chain saws

So I have this Poulan 2150 that the main fuel line got a hole in it. Every time you hit the primer button it would shoot a stream of gas out of the hole and of course it did not run well. So took it to town with me so I could get the correct size fuel line. Got back home and started to work on it. Well first off they gave me one size to big so it would not work but while working on it the return line broke and it was the size I had gotten. Went back to town to buy some forceps or hemostats. Ask at a couple places for hemostats and people did not have a clue what I was asking for. Asked in 2 places in Wal-Mart and the people in the pharmacy did not know what hemostats where which is pretty bad. Had to go to an old fashion drug store to find a set. Got he correct size fuel line and it took me 45 minutes to get it to go into the hole in the gas tank where it needed to go due to the fact it fit in a blind corner of the tank and you could not see or feel it let alone get a tool on it. Finally got it in and tried to saw out and it ran just fine. Now on the the next couple of saws to see if I can make them work

Just like always you tell me to do the thing that is out and out stupid I need the saw since 3/4 of my land it trees and from time to time you have to cut some.

The way I read your post was that you had a number of saws, I have one I use here quits a bit. When it won't work anymore I fix it, or toss it and get a new one. I found the WORST thing you can do to a chainsaw is to Not use it. One is damn near too many.

A good fishing bait shop will have them, they work great for removing hooks from fish.

I'm 76 years old and been working on junk all my life and never heard of a hemostat.
Sooo I googled it. Now I see. I've put lots of fuel lines on weed eaters etc. and always used needle nose pliers. Always works good for me, I will keep on using them and forget about the hemostat thing.

On this saw needle nose pliers will not fit into the gas tank so no way to use them if I could have I would have. As for hemostats they are a common tool used in hospitals and also by electronics's tec in the navy. Me being a former Navy E.T and used them a lot

Old--don't know if you did this or not, but every time I install a fuel line into a gas tank, I sharpen/slice the end. Goes in very easy, especially if you lubricate the line.
I just installed a line in a Craftsman 2.3 chainsaw and had to make a one inch slice to get it through.
And yes, I had to use forceps.

I do the same thing to put a new fuel line and use a silicone lubrication along with needle nose pliers.

I have about 10 small engines, so I bought 3 or 4 feet of every size the shop had. Then I don't have to make another trip into town. Just cut the end on an angle and lube it and shove it in the grommet, never needed any tools.

I've been doing some chainsaw work too. Except I only have to pull an extension cord. Generator is in the lawn cart behind the mule and it will runs on fumes. Uses very little gas. Been removing Asian honeysuckle from gravel pit most nice days this winter and hauling the brush to the burn pit. Then removing some of the big roots too. Geo

Ya I have 2 of those electric ones also but that does not help when I am out in the woods where you can not get any thing there but you and a gas saw. Plus even if I could get a cord there the generator would burn 3 or 4 times to fuel then a gas saw would. I just cannot run a saw for hours any more. One or so tank of gas and I have to take an hour or more break

I did try the lube and angle cut and nope would not go no matter how I tried. Ended up cutting an angle that was at least 1.5 inches long so I could then grab it with the hemostats and then got it. I too have a good many small engines but most are 4 stroke which I do not mind working on but 2 cycle I hate

Yep in this case a very long angle cut the the hemostats and I dipped it into the bar oil since that was handy

Old, my champion 3500W RV generator run on fumes. Almost nothing.I ran it for days. Only used2 gallons. I saved money not buy2 cycle oil.

Only 2 generators I have is the old Lincoln welder and it burns a gal an hour loaded or not. Or the Koler 6.5KW and it too burns a gal or so an hour so either way I go it cost to much. I do have a mini Homelite I will be trying to get running again in a few days. This homelite is so light I can hold it up over my head but of course that is short term also any more

If I'm just removing brush, my terramite, 20 hp honda, and kawasaki mule only uses a half gallon per hour. I think my generator can go about 4 hours on a gallon powering the chainsaw. I can't start a 2 cycle chainsaw, but the generator is an easy start, just one pull. My other generator is even easier, just turn the key. geo.

I thought I might have to work on mine this morning, dumped the chain oil in the gas tank, was able to flush it out but still got a slug of thick oil in the carburetor.

I understand the problem with pulling the rope on a chain saw. The ones I have are pretty light other wise I would not be able to do it [plus most of the time I have the son around to help which well he is a whole lot younger so he can still do stuff I only once did

Ya that is where I found one set. They called the forceps cost $2.97 but are cheaply made and did not like to stay locked. That is where I asked about hemostats and the guy asked what the heck are those and all I could think it how dumb can you be but ya not all people know about things but for his age one would think he would have heard of them

From the perspective of someone who has no idea of what is going on here, I'd say it seems more like you misunderstand what JD Seller is saying than that he misunderstands you. He is saying just don't reply, and you are saying that your reply isn't really a reply. If it was a phone call from someone who you didn't want calling you, you could look at your caller ID and not take the call. What you are doing instead is picking up the receiver and telling the person not to call you anymore. That's a reply. If you do it once and they don't call you again, then great. If you do it ten times and they continue to call, at what point do you expect it to work? Clearly, calling you is working for them because they are getting through to you. It wouldn't be working for them if you never took the call, period. Same thing here.

they have a wire now that makes it easy, still hate doing them in shop thou.turn alot away as will spend more time than they can go buy cheap saw for less that is still better than what they brought in.

Old is a friend of mine and is a genuine MECHANIC and knows how to operate and repair this old stuff. any DUMAZZ can buy new and throw away the equipment that has been used quite a bit. Some of us do not have to have new saws and can make do with what we have because we did not inherit a lot of money.

They do! They also have extra large straight and curved ones. I have 2 of each, couldn't work on saws without them. Perfect for pulling fuel lines.

Well I have asked him nicely to not answer my post but he does not seem to understand that if asked not to do something means nothing to him I have asked him to leave me alone for years but he dose not seem to understand. He is suppose to be a former Air Force officer so he should know that if asked to leave some one alone he should understand that but yet he does not and seems like he has to tell me what to do with what I own

Poulan gets a bad rap. Their older saws were solid, professional grade saws, often with features ahead of their time. When they went to the consumer grade saws...that's when the quality died.
