I have a huge problem

I just got Kay (42 2N) up and running where she will start every time and run great, BUT...I took her out for a little seat time to get the motor broke in and parked her in my garage. This is where the problem comes in, there is a pool of anti-freeze bigger than the motor on the floor. She has been running fine for about three weeks and never done anything like this before. I think I know what the problem is, but I am not for sure. Maybe someone here can shed some light on this for me. When I rebuilt the block, the head gasket that came with my kit did not have an 'UP' or 'FRONT' on it anywhere. Could this be the problem???? Could I have gotten the gasket upside down??? It was an all metal gasket, if that helps any...

First, check all the hose connetions - ya, you did that. Is there any clue as to the source ? IE: running down the side of the block ? OR maybe the block drain on the left (by the oil canister ) is the culprit. HTH...b

Can't tell anything until you find the leak.Fill radiator back up with water and start it up. A leak that big shoul show up

The hose clamps are tight.

The drain plug on the side of the block (that used to be there) now houses a probe for an electric water temp gauge, it does weep a little, but not that much.

I will go into greater detail on it tomorrow and see what is up and report back.

That much antifreeze sounds like a bad hose or water pump went out....R.M. IN AL

Remember to put enough antifreeze in to just cover the core -- don't overfill. The head gasket is symmetrical front to back. be sure and retorque the head bolts again after running it for a while. I do it three times after the initial installation.

check your freeze plugs to see if they are properly seated.

check to see if the head is cracked. This could of happened when you first bolted down and torqued the head.

Jim.......ya just OVERFILLED yer radiator (cover just the tubes) It takes about 15-min before the radiator water gitts HOT enuff to piddle out yer radiator drain tube. Since probably most of yer engine running was short time while testing, the water never gott HOT enuff to overflow out yer little drain tube down the side of yer radiator.

Don't forgitt to RE-TORQUE yer cylinder head bolts.
And NO, yer leaking problem aint'chur headgasket. .......Dell

get some flourescent dye from auto parts store& put in rad,run until circulating through motor.After setting over night,with a black light,you will be able to clearly see where it is leaking from.Also is cheap[3-4 dollars-9-10 for black light]---lha

I agree with Dell,thats the most common reason you get antifreeze out of the overflow tube

Well, I think that I found the problem...the @#%$ headgasket is leaking and it is leaking all around the outside edge of the head. I checked the torque on them and they are still good and tight (90 ft/lbs). The thing is I had the block and head checked for squareness, then I turned around and did it again, and they were both perfect. Are the all metal head gaskets supposed to have the copper spray on them or can the be put on dry???
