I have a question

about aftermarket parts. I got prices from an agco dealer on some gears for a tranny, the same Agco dealer found the same parts supplied by an aftermarket company. agco price on one of the gears was $658. the same part in aftermarket was $180. Somebody told me that the aftermarket parts are parts that the manufacturer made but was not within tolerance/specification and thats why they are so much cheaper...Is this true?

I kind of think it's true -- BUT --- when I asked Honda about Spark Plug Wires (cost $65.00 and No Life time Warranty) and they told me that Honda Products are Better then After Market ANY DAY ---- and then

I went to a parts place and checked after market spark plug wires (cost $40.00) and they told me --- with a Life Time Warranty money back if your not satisfied for any reason --- I'm buying the After Market...

For something like a gear I would take a file with me and test the hardness of the gear with the file on both the Aftermarket and the Mfg. part. (if both are hardened then buy the cheaper) (if one is hard and one aint then buy the hardened one)
Nuff said.

Aftermarket ones that are cheaper are made in some other country but we have used them in other tractors too with no problems yet. If it's a tractor you are going to keep and use everyday to make your living then it might be worth it to buy the better gears $$$

some times it is they dont meet specs and sometimes it is they are not packaged in the agco or JD or Cat box just in a plain brown box I know that Cathas two lines of parts and alot of them are Identical and one line is half price of other.

Could they be Agco heritage parts? Same quality specs. but made in different countries for popular tractors. 50 to 75% cheaper than standard Agco parts. I bought a fuel primer pump and draft plunger and yoke and they work just as good as original. Dave

Just because it's aftermarket doesn't mean it's AGCO's junk.

Many small companies are starting to make niche replacement parts that are hard to find or a little less common, and they needed one so they had a bunch made up. (that's how I started selling 3 pt. balls for Oliver's)

That being said, I agree with the others that it could've been AGCO heritage. I wouldn't call that aftermarket either, but if they have another source no matter who it is, I'd sure as heck consider them.
