Not to argumentive but I am constantly reading artic;es such as : wwwbusinessweek.com/magazine/content/06_33/63997076.htr that says that 2009 will bring online cellulose plants and that sawgrass and other cellulose products will produce far more ethanol than corn per acre (seven times). Brazil has perfected the process and uses sugar cane and sugar for their independance from oil. There is also a new process sponsored by Berkshire-Hathaway (Warren Buffet) that makes oil and ethanol from all kinds of waste with two plants up and running. When this process is absolutely perfect look for it to be franchised to local goverments which will then be able to do away with their landfills.

There are also places that are using the methane gas from landfills to produce electricity and heat - there was a short story on the news one night about a certain college that is doing it, the name escapes me at this time.

There are tons of energy choices aside from oil - it"s just a matter of time before the cost vs. benefit/energy output will even out.

Ethanol is a great thing, there is far more than just corn that can be used to produce it. Biodiesel is even better!

The process used by the conversion of garbage also produces biodiesel as pure as refined diesel. The complete process is fueled my its own gas and the only by product is clean water. You will hear much more about this soon.

In Nebraska here, someone put in a very unique ethanol plant. They have a huge cattle lot, from which they take the manure and burn it to heat the corn, and then they use the 'mush' left after the process to feed same cattle. Seems a large efficiency would be had that way! Greg

Maybe it will happen before ten years we will have to wait to see.

And if they are getting seven times the gallons per acre that will be ok also.

But if they can get seven times the gallons per acre that tells me there should be an easy way to get all that ethanol out of the cellulose if there is that much there. But its not happening.

As far as sugar cane, yep it will produce ethanol and lots of it per acre. But sugar cane won't grow in a wide area like corn cause of the weather.

Friend called and said he read an article on price increase on bread due to a world wide wheat shortage.Seems that corn acreage is cutting down wheat plantings.Grocery prices are moving up rapidly here.English muffins that cost 50 cents a pak are now 79 cents.Beef is way up,cost to feed poultry is up 40%.Milk prices are up, almost double in some places.Think high fuel prices are trouble, wait till food triples.Ethanol is a pipe dream.Takes diesel fuel and petroleum based fertlizer to grow corn, more fuel to harvest and dry.More fuel to distill.
