Looking at 385 international are they tractors. Not sure about the 3 cylinder diesel.
Were these generally a good tractor or did they have some built in flaws.

I have one and really like it, I think the area you need to take a good look at is the brakes. I have heard people on here talk about leaving the hand brake on by mistake then all that junk comes off and gets in the tranny oil. My 385 only has about 1300 hrs. on it and the brakes were fine but I caught myself a couple of times almost forgetting and leaving the brake on when moving, so I made a metal plate and bolted above the hand brake handle making me unable to use the brake. One thing that is really nice is it does not use much fuel, cheap to operate

I do not think you have anything to worry about with the engine, it's a german diesel 155 which is a three bore. It is a German 310 6 bore cut down to 3

Hi,
Don't worry about engine, change crankcase oil, fuel filters regularly and use clean fuel and add a little Diesel fuel condition or a little 2 cyl engine oil every time you add fuel. This lubes the injection pump. Replace the fan/water pump/alternator belt when ever there is any sign of cracks or wear.
The 95 Series replaced the hand brake light on the dash with a flashing lamp so it is very noticeable if the hand brake is on.

we have a 485 Case Ih we have had for 15 years
it is very close to the 385
ours has been a good tractor and we work it hard year round

What is a good price range for a 385 that seem to be mechanically but could use a paint job, decent tires. I can get it bought for 3000 what do you think.

3k sounds good if it's in good working condition and good tires.

Far batter tractor than a lot you'd get for $3000
