Posted here before about a no hydraulics issue on the IH 444.

also posted on the Farmall/IH forum and included an update today on getting everything done and a couple handy hints I learned along the way. LINK >> 444 Hydraulic Filter fixes

got it all back together and it works good.

then... after scraping the grass out of the driveway stones and swapping out the brush hog I parked it for a bit to work on some lawn clean up before I started mowing. then the bugger wouldn't start. cranked for a bit then stopped, pushed the starter button again and a click down by the starter and then nothing, even the idiot lights and fuel pump stopped. hmmmm. that's odd. first thought was a short in the starter or solenoid. so i tapped them Lightly and nothing, took the solenoid off, seemed ok, nothing, rocked the tractor in gear in case starter was stuck, nothing. after each attempt everything would go dead and i would take the neg cable off and put it back on and usually everything would work. so i pushed on the battery posted thinking that maybe it came loose inside the battery (unusual but not impossible) and it would then crank over but if i took my thumb off the post it wouldn't go. Hmmmm. so finally took the negative cable off and took the cable clamp loose and pulled the wires out, very corroded and I cleaned up the terminal and the wires and put it back together and torqued it up good. Put back on battery and it fired right up. !!!?

never realized that it could do that. must have been a very back connection. Looking for a new molded together negative cable to replace it with. Don't like the clamp on type. the Case 800 I had, had 00 welder wire for the positive and a "strap type" negative cable and I never had issues with it. neither cable looks very large on the 444 (2 awg???)

looks like the IH PN is : 629029R92. the pictures online show this is a strap type.
