IH 47 baler slip clutch problem

I have a 47 square baler (IH) that the slip clutch plate on the flywheel shattered on (it is the plate the centrifugal clutch engages with, it is bolted to the main flywheel on the driveshaft) . The pieces are too far gone to be resurrected. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Case/IH doesn't produce that part anymore, and it seems all of them around here have been sold for scrap. Or can the slip clutch be bypassed with reasonable safety? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

re configure your pto so that you just have a shear pin in the flywheel and no slipper clutch and just put an overrunning clutch on the pto shaft of the tractor. Just my 2 cents.

in no way would i try to run a baler without it having a slip clutch. not only does it protect your machine, but also the drive train on your tractor. if you happen to engage the pto with a little bit to much gas on then the clutch will slip a little and not shock the rest of the baler. clutches from 45,47, 420, 430 and 440 balers should be the same part. check ih parts books for what all that part number fits on. that will give you a bigger choice of machies to look for as far as parts go. if you will watch out you might be able to buy a whole machine right and then you'd have a parts machine. i would like to guess at what caused your problem. you have either been running it to loose or , most likely, haven't been freeing it up in the spring before you start bailing. over the winter they will stick to their mating surfaces and you are supposee to remove them and lightly sand them off in the spring before using them. i never let mine sit out in the weather for any length of time without having a cover over at least the fly wheel and knotters. another cause may have been trying to engage it with to many rpms up on the tractor.
