IH 47 vs. IH 46

I have an IH 46 baler and I saw an ad locally for an IH 47 baler for sale for parts. What are the differences between the 47 and the 46...what parts transfer over and which don"t? From all I"ve seen they look really really similar along with the 45. Any thoughts are great, thanks!

Chris

The 45 and 46 balers are as far apart as day and night and I think the 47 is that was to the 46, nothing worth thinking about will fit both.

I would say that most if not all the parts are interchangable. I used to have a 46 baler, and a neighbor has two 47s. Anytime I had an issue I"d go over to see what was needed, as far as adjustments, parts, mechanics, etc

Sorry Leroy,

A lot of parts will interchange between the 46 and 47 balers, don't know about the 45, was never around one. Knotters, needles, needle U frame, plunger connecting rod, pickup teeth are a few that come to mind.

Ran a 47 for over 40 years, kept it running the last few years with parts from a 46 that a neighbor gave me

Any ideas on the clutch/flywheel parts? You think they would carry over from the 46 to the 47?

Chris

Never tried it. Flywheel looks the same. Balers are now long gone. Going from memory on this. Check the CaseIH web site and compare part numbers.

the 46 is older, the 37 was an economical version of the 47, Dad bought a 37 new in 1967, we wished many times that he had bought a 24T.

Best to swing by your dealer and look at both parts manuals in detail and you will really know something before buying a parts machine. Tom

I am pretty sure that the flywheel parts are the same. I put a clutch and driveline assembly off of a 430 onto my 46 and it bolted right to the original 46 flywheel. It appears to me that most of the wear parts are interchangeable. MIke
