I purchased a IH 674 that was missing the injection pump. I found a injection pump off a IH 695 after finally geting all the timing marks lined up I got it started, but I for got to change filers. It ranfor an hour or so then got real thready and died. I changed the filters and have not been able to get to start again.I bought this tractor dirt cheap from a dismantler because it was running when they got it,the main problem was broken shifter on low and reverse lever.

Hi, check the fuel flow out of the fuel tank by disconnecting fuel line at input to first fuel filter and let it run into clean bucket. Fuel must flow the full of the fuel line pipe. These tractors are known for junk in the bottom of the fuel tank that blocks the outlet. You have to drain fuel tank and take the outlets out of the bottom of the tank and clean them. Sometimes a quick fix is blowing compressed air from fuel line back into the tank but problem will reappear. Injection pump has probably lost prime now, bleed system by opening bleed screw on first fuel filter until all air bubbles are gone, do the next filter if it has two filters. To start put the STOP/START/RUN lever in the START position and throttle about half open and crank engine, if engine doesn't fire loosen one of the injector lines at rear of the injection pump and crank engine again. If all this doesn't work take your air compressor and slightly pressurize the fuel tank and try starting again.
NOTE: DON'T CRANK STARTER longer than 60 seconds at at time and allow a cooling off period in between start attempts.

I have bled the lines, blown air into the tank with no success. the the only I got to run was using a gas soaked rag over the intake. there is fuel at the injectors. I don't know if it is the timing or the pump is bad.I'm thinking about pulling the pump again and taking it the and have it checked. It is not the original pump and does not have the start option, it is a newer pump the same that is on a 695

Hi Jim, so it is very hard to start, does it blow a lot of white smoke? If yes, could be timed to slow.
Usually if it is to fast, engine will kick back on starter. A warm engine, when perfectly timed, it will start in less than 1 rev of the engine.

Earlier post you said engine ran after installing replacement injection pump from 695. Did it start and run properly? Has STOP/RUN control rod slipped and lever is not being pushed all the way forward to stop adjustment screw? Has cap screws on injection pump drive gear loosen and moved the timing?

Jim
