IH Cyclo Planter- good?

Saw this planter for sale on my way home today. Wants $1500 for it. Seems pretty high for what I saw! Fertilizer boxes are junk and all rusted. Both marker arms are missing disks. Last used it 3 years ago to plant pumpkins. I don't know anything about these planters. Read some stuff in the archives and it looks like most people don't like them. Wondering what it could be worth and if I should even bother with it. Only would use it every year for maybe 10 or 20 acres of corn. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dan

P.S. He said he had 1 drum ( for pumpkins) and the pump inside his shed.

Paid 500 for mine and it came with no till liquid fertilizer and spare parts tell em you'll give $300 then you got something to work with

That is way too high. I haven't seen a 400 at auction yet sell for over $300. The last one was two weeks ago and it was meticulously kept indoors. It went for $275.

Not all people dislike them. When I was looking at planters I considered one but several people told me there were design issues that were corrected by the 800. There are a lot of 800's out there in good useable shape that you can get for less than he wants for this one. I bought the 800. I'll tell you how much I like it in a couple weeks.

The only place for a IH air planter is the scrap pile. You'd be better off looking for a JD 7000. I've had a IH 400 and a Case IH 900. I'll never own a red planter or a red grain drill again. This is just my opinion though.

No, they"re not good. Model 400 should be scrap price. Dozen years ago I bought a working 8rw 400 w/ liq fert for $275 with intentions of making it a 15 inch bean planter. Another project passed over. You could have it for the same price.

$200.

Red planters got popular again with the 1200 model. The 400, 500, 800 were not so well liked. The 900 was getting better.

Wow.There is a 6 row 3point that is for sale up the road.I WAS thinking of investigating....I think I pass on it!Thanks for the heads up!

Got a 6 row 30" 400 cyclo here that I have used since 1986. Always had good luck with it . Used to be a lot of them around here. My 400 has dry fert and new discs on the fert last year and the opener discs are in excellent shape also. To help you out you can have it for $250. Traded up to a 800 cyclo mainly because of the better openers on the 800. It's been working fine for me this spring also. Main trouble with the cyclo system was the operator... they are good units. The openers on a 800 are identical to those on the new 1250 Case IH planters. E central SD.

casecollector,

Thank you! My email is open. Send me your phone number and I will call you. Thanks again, Dan

Casecollector , Didn't get anything yet!? Try again if you can. I'll give you my number just in case! 651-278-2840

Thanks, Dan

Isn't worth near that $1500. Sold a six row that was in very good shape for $500 that had fertilizer and had been upgraded to depth wheels at the seed openers to control planting depth rather using the press wheel and pivoting at the frame. Might be worth $300 or so for someone wanting a small planter to do food plots otherwise it is worth scrap price and perhaps quite a bit more for the pump if it is a 540 rpm version. Recommend you search for something better.
