IH666D Misses when Hot - Help

My friends IH666D (German Engine) misses when hot and working hard after an hour. It has gotten bad enough now that soon after it starts missing it just stops. After it cools a bit it starts and runs for a few minutes, then stops again. He has changed the fuel filter twice now in 60 hours. He put in 15W40 oil becase a mechanic said the engine oil was involved in pumping the fuel. ( I don't understand that, educate me. ) The local dealership mechanic does not know what the issue is but has not not had the chance to look at it closely either. Does anyone have any ideas what is happening? Could the fuel injection pump be temperature dependent? Thanks, Paul in WI.

Possibility the fuel tank has crud in the bottom of the tank where the fuel line comes. To check, undo fuel line before it goes into the fuel pump and see if a good stream comes out. If it is a weak stream, the permanent cure is to rinse out the tank. Temporary cure is to take the fuel cap OFF and blow into the open end of the line with a rubber tipped blow gun, briefly. A good stream should then come out, so refasten line quickly. I just had this problem.
