i'm NOT stumped

i took a look at the air filter today. 3/4 inch of sludge cleaned it out and put new oil in it. the M starts e-z and re-strats good. do ya think this is the main problem. or??

Two ideas, It may have contributed, and it could be that something you wiggled when doing it was actually the cause.
I think a starter draw test (cheap gauge from auto store) might show a styarter needing bushings. It is ok at 450 amps bad at 600. The starter can be affected by heat, and be OK when cold, and draggy when hot/warmed up. JimN

Well ya! I mean all internal combustion engines need proper air flow and metering to properly run. When the air cant get in the intake, its gonna be starved for air which is = to running engine way rich.

Forgot to add running like that could have made it sooo rich it was = to holding choke on and flooding engine. Which will be hard for the starter to crank since the cylinder/s are filled with fluid.

Starter could be bad, but time will surely tell.

i dont think the starter is bad because we jumped it with 12 volts and it start either. the thing i dont understand is why its start so e-z the first time??
