Is there a book or reference of any kind describing the different implements John Deere made in the 30's,40's or 50's? Mainly interested in plows and discs. Thanks CalJim

Look for a dealer sales manual. I have one from a John Deere dealer on the 4020 - 4010 era. This is a manual the dealer used to familiarize himself with everything JD made. It covers tractors and combine of course but it also shows all the implements JD made. It is about 3 inches thick and has lots of good info. JD offered a hand crank corn sheller until 1964. You will be suprised at what all the implement companys offered. I have 6 dealer manuals from IHC from 1956 to 1966. IHC offered a rubber tired hyd. lift dump rake up until 1962. I bought the manuals I have 30 years ago. Not sure how difficult they are to come by now. If you find one there's hours of reading in one of them.

Two-cylinder Club has some nice videos of the era- ones shown at annual John Deere Day programs. Factory shots as well as field demo's. Also, a book- "Operation, Care, and Repair of Farm Equipment" or a similar title is good.

CalJim, I have a 36 pg "John Deere" volume 2,An
Advertising History, compiled by Alan King. It
shows JD tractors and implements as they would
be shown in newspaper ads,literature,etc. There
are a number of plows including a #40 which was
built for the Fordson tractor,also a two way plow
for the L and LA. 2-3 are full page, a few are
1/4 page, and various. There are only a couple
small pictures of discs. All in black and white
with color cover. $12 includes postage. Covers
1914-1949. Chuck
