Implements for Cat 1

Ok, here goes my new dumb question for the day, Can ANY cat 1 implement be used on a Cat 1 hitch irregardless of the maker, such as JD planter hooked to Ford hitch or how does all this work??

Thanks guys!
Ya'll are GREAT!

Katharine,
Cat 1 refers to the size of the pin that goes through the lift arm. It is universal among brands.

Katharine,

Yup, your are spoiled for choice. My local dealer is a John Deere dealer, so one of my implements is green! Actually, none of my implements are Ford, but my 8N doesn't mind!

As the others have said, but you are also limited to how much your tractor can pick up. Just because its cat 1 and will fit does not mean it will work on your tractor. If its to heavy for it you will lift the front end of the tractor off the ground and thats not safe.

If the category defines the pin diameter, does it mean that a CAT 1 implement cannot be used on a larger tractor(say an 850 CAT 2) because the larger dia pin on a cat 2 tractor will not fit the cat 1 implement? I need a little lesson on this. Thanks.

98% of the time all cat one implements work on all cat 1 tractors.

Following that is cat 2, cat 3N, cat 3, cat 4.... Each number is for a bigger sized hitch that can handle more hp.

There are a few rare pieces that use a clamp or are badly built with a structure in the way or an odd pto setup and only work well with one tractor model - but this is rare.

As mentioned, even if it physically hooks up, a large cat 1 implement might not _work_ with a cat one tractor - if the implement is on the large size, and the tractor on the small size.

Your Cat 2 tractor is going to have 1 1/8" lift pin holes and the Cat 1 implement is going to have 7/8" lift pins.
So if you install a 7/8 to 1 1/8 adapter sleeve on the pin it will work.

The top link on Cat 2 is 1" and Cat 1 uses 3/4".
So you would also need to get the top pin for a Cat 1 hitch and install a 3/4 to 1" adapter in your top link hole.

This works on such things as a brush cutter because there is no pulling. The tractor just carries the cutter around the field. But if you were to hook a Cat 1 plow on a Cat 2 tractor using this method you are most likely to break something if the plow ever hit a snag. The HP and traction of the tractor is to much for the quality or metal size used in a Cat 1 plow.

Cat 0
20 hp and under
Top Link 5/8”
Lift Arm 5/8”

Cat 1
15 to 50 hp
Top Link ¾”
Lift Arm 7/8”

Cat 2
45-95 hp
Top Link 1”
Lift Arm 1 and 1/8”

Cat 3
95 hp and up
Top Link 1 and ¼”
Lift Arm 1 and 7/16”

Thanks for the clarification. So things like a back blade and a box blade that are cat 1 can be used with a cat 2 tractor with adapters..
