inherited tractors

I was reading the Mississippi Market Bulliten tonight and ran across an ad where someone had inherited a gaggle of tractors and wants to sell them. They are from 1929 to 1953 and are mccormick deering, huber, case, MM, farmall, massey harris and john deere. The price range is from $2500 to $4000.
If anyone is intrested ill post the ph#.
Sure wish i had some spare cash id sure be digging.

Funny how old timers thin their kids & grand kids who have no farm, no farm experience, not storage space but they do have an X-box. Think so wishfully.
These geezers leave their collection in the will thinking the kids & grand kids are suddenly going to leave their life behind. And collect/eat/drink/sleep antique tractors.

Can't answer for anyone else, and none of my kids are farming or into antique tractors, but I have my Dad's old Allis B and it'll be the last one to go after I'm gone. Hope it goes to a good home if none of the kids want it.

Reminds me of a man who died here several years ago. he had quite a gun collection and other nice things. he had educated his kids and they all left for the bright lights of the concrete jungle. When the old man died, they sold EVERYTHING he had in a yard sale. My dad bought some of his guns for $10 each!

Bottom line is: kids couldn't care less how long it took to gather this stuff up, only how quick they can dump it.

Why anybody, regardless of their financial means, would want to gather up a bunch of anything, is beyond me.

Thats the story here-thats why all the farmland was sold. Therere literally are no collectors clubs or collectors here that I am aware of-and boy am i lookin. All most kids my age see is a hunk of old rusty iron. They dont see its potential or even what it might be like to farm with it, its just 3800 pounds of rust. Sad thing here is people that inherit tractors dont want em-I'd LOVE to inherit one. I have looking SOOOO hard and cant turn up anything. It drives me up a wall when people sell something thats been in the family for years. Im a vegiterian but still have a few of the leather wallets my grandpa gave me before he died. They mean alot to me. Most my age around here atleast have no intrest in mechanics , tractors, or farming or the way things were done years ago. Im in to all 4 so I guess im definatly in the minority. Its a shame.

The moderen lifestyle is tougher than ever I believe. If you got a job and a relative dies, you really can't get any time off to take your time to dispose of things, so basically you can only get just a few days off to get in there, and just dump everything as quickly as possible so you can get back to your job, or else you won't have a job. Most bosses don't care about your personal life, and will hardly give you family time, so thats why most people just rush in and dispose of things the way they do because most employers won't give you more than 2 weeks off, and thats a very short time to go through decades of accumulation. Unless your self employed you live by someone elses rules.

You Know , I "Gather Up A Bunch Of Old Stuff"
And it ain't for the kids when I die!
It's for me now!
I like the History of "The Stuff"
Somethings have no real value! But to time and history!
I collect Tractors and belong to 3 Tractor Clubs, I collect Farm Tools, Antique tools, antique railroad stuff, I volunteer as a Brakeman on a Historic Operating Railroad Museum.
And I collect and volunteer for one thing!
To Give Me Personal Sadisfaction!
I couldn't care less what the Kids do with it when I'm Dead! Cause I'm Dead! I think I'll be beyond Caring at that point!
And besides if it gives them a little Aggravation and Hassle having to get rid of it!
Well I guess thats just a little Pay Back for the lifetime of Aggravation and Hassle's they have caused me! And if your a parent you will understand that!
And it would seem to me if your on this Discussion Forum It would only stand to reason That you have at least One Old Tractor! And wouldn't that be a form of "Gathering Up Old Stuff"???
There is and old saying about History, something about "If you choose to forget it! You will be Da@#* to repeat it!

I " gather up all this old junk" for MY personal satisfaction as well. I don't give a damm who has to deal with it after I'm gone. Maybe in my will I'll bequeath it all to my cat just to pisss them off even further.

I'll quarantee one thing. That is that after I'm dead they will wish they wouldn't have annoyed me so much about my " junk".

Remember, revenge is a dish best served cold.

I have one old tractor that I cultivate the garden with....a '53 Super A. I would gladly trade it for a modern equivalent..like say a 1980 something JD 900 HC, an IH 274 or a Kubota 245 offset. But, for no more than I use it...the expense of a newer machine is a poor investment.

I also have a new 4 wd JD 65 horse tractor...it's used for serious work. I'm not into pretending it's 1947 again.

So you volunteer to be a brakeman for some kind of play railroad. What a genuine waste of good time. I was an engineer for 27 years with CSX, I hated the job and they PAID me to do it. There isn't any toy trains on my place, pictures of locomotives on the walls, or brass engine bells displayed. Only thing from the RR I want, is that direct deposit once a month.

No, I'm not bitter or quarrelsome. I just have never understood why people want or need 5 old tractors for parade queens. I don't understand why my father in his advancing years has 3 airplanes and can't even pass the physical any longer. He gets off paying insurance on them and watching them sit there in the 60' x 120' hanger and TALKING about flying. What a waste of money. Why not sell those fabric covered skeletons and buy tickets on a 767 and do some real flying, actually going somewhere?

Some people's places look like scrap yards with derelicts parked all over. They aren't ever going to fix all that junk up...but they just have to possess it. Gives them a warm and fuzzy feeling just to know they have a 1937 Allis transmission laying out there in the weeds somewhere...just in case they ever need one. Reminds of me going into a guys garage once and here sat this old engine on a stand.....where it had obviously been for 3 decades. The owner says, You know what THAT IS!? Knowing he thought I was going to be impressed, I said....I don't give a $hit. Why THAT is a PACKARD V-8! I said....so, do you have a Packard car to put it in? Well, no......I'm just keeping it! Yeah..that's a good reason to have a Packard V8 engine! Same as having a barn full of obsolete tractors or a hangar full of old airplanes and a garage full of cars.

I'm so glad that you are the person in charge of what other people should do with their time, with the money they've earned and how they should spend it.

I don't understand how someone can spend all day, every day wandering around a golf course. Even worse is sitting there watching it on tv.

But they chose it as a hobby, so it's NONE OF MY DAMM BUSINESS.

It's something you will maybe learn after you get out of high school.

I got out of HS 32 years ago, but I don't collect old desks or chalk boards.

Maybe I ought to take up collecting burrs. I can always put them under your saddle and make good use of them.

And you probably play golf too right? Playing golf and riding in a 767 to go 'somewhere' to me is a real waste of time not to mention totally unproductive.BUT if thats what you like go for it and have fun.We all have our 'useless' things to do and if a person doesn't have a good hobby or 2 to keep them happy they usually turn into bitter little people that critize everything other folks do that others find dull and negative.I love to go to exhibitions and shows where people are collecting things like the Packard that I may never want to collect but have met some of the most interesting people on Earth.

You might want to check out the financial end of some of this old 'junk' I have a rare tractor that I paid $900 for 10 years ago just that has been just sitting in a shed was offered $8000 for it not long ago.With bank interest rates at around 2 to 3 percent who is the fool? The man who kept the $900 in the bank at 3% or the guy that buys a rare piece and its worth 5X in 10 years?
