injection pump

This is a 1850 Oliver with a Perkins motor.We are trying to put the injector pump back on and it is smoking gray /white smoke out of all exhaust holes and sounds like hell. We checked injectors they are good. Valve lash at .12 thousands. Please walk us thru we are having trouble making it work. Thanks Billy

What procedure did you use to time the injection pump drive? Are yo sure the flywheel was on right? Remember you time the injection pump drive and then drop the pump into position.

Why did you have the pump off? I recently learned that a leaking delivery valve in a Roosa Master pump makes for hard starts and smoke from the exhaust with no start. How do you know the injectors are good? Did someone pop test them and verify the pop off pressure is right?

Unless you had the the pump drive gear loose up front, there is no need to adjust. The pump and short drive shaft have a dummy spline, so it only goes together one way. If I remember correctly, you set the flywheel at TDC #1 on compression stroke and the notch in the pump drive adapter should align with the one in the drive gear. The other way is to set the the flywheel at 28 degrees BTDC #1 cylinder on compression. The F mark inside the timing window on the side of the pump should align with with a scribe mark on the snap ring or the flat end of the snap ring if it has no scribe mark. This however may not always be accurate if the snap ring moved somehow. Hope this helps.
