can the injection pumps be taken apart and cleaned up and put back together without a special shop. I took apart the tractor to clean it all up and paint it but was 2 years till I got it all back together and now the pumps are stuck. just wandering if anybody ever messed with the pumps at home or does someone know of a place where they can be rebuilt.

They can be taken apart, the plungers probably freed up by using mutton tallow on them and reassembled on the rack, but it is VERY unlikely you will get them back in exactly the same location and as a result the calibration will be off. They simply need to be run and adjusted on a test stand. The voice of experience.

I am guilty of the same neglectful ownership of a 720 diesel, and was wondering about getting my pump, and injectors looked at prior to putting my tractor back together.{It's been setting since January 06}. How much would this service usually run from a company like Renaissance Tractor. Thanks, Greg H.

bkfran69. The answer to your question is yes. When I worked at the JD dealer I took many many pumps apart and cleaned like MSB said.I reassembled using new gaskets and sealing rings. I then installed in tractor and run at a very slow idle and checked exh. temp. If temp was uneven, I would ajust link between pumps. I had 100% results and never took pumps out to rebuild or recalibrate.

It has been 2002 since I had those re-worked, but I would think $100 might get them checked out on his test stand, then add in shipping and add'l parts. Mine were worn to the tune of 8,000 hours and years outside in the rain, and I think it took $400 to set them to like new condition, but I cannot say. You need to call Albert. Great guy and a wealth of two cylinder knowledge.
