Anything can be difficult if you don't have full repair information.

That Roosamaster/Stanadyne injection pump is relatively simple and very common. That's why it got so popular as opposed to large in-line pumps. It's just a high-pressure hydraulic piston pump coupled to a low pressure hydraulic vane-pump, with some added features to control RPM and timing advance. I can take one completely apart, fix, and put back together in one hour. I don't say that to brag, just to indicate there is not an awful lot too it. If I'd never done one before, and had no tech information, I could spends days and maybe make it worse instead of better.

I have no idea what exactly you problem is. I'll guess by saying the #1 failure in older Roosamaser D series pumps is a piece of plastic that falls apart. When it does, the pump makes the engine behave as if it's running out of fuel. It will lose power and die. Then with most, restart later and do it all over again.

You'd better first check and make sure the pump is actuall turning. It has a special driveshaft designed to break in two if the pump develops problems. If that shaft broke, the pump will not turn when the engine cranks.

Most pumps can be fixed for less then $50 in parts. When a pump shop does it, they do the same, along with cleaning the exterior to make it look almost new, and mounting on a test stand to test-run. That $50 in parts quickly becomes a $700 or more repair bill.

I'll add that you don't need a test-stand when you've got a "test tractor" to mount the pump on.
