inline baler problems

I have a Case 8520 inline square baler and I'm having trouble. On about every 5th or 6th bale the twine will break in the middle, not the knot in the middle and it's always on the right side. Tension is not too tight and I put a knew set of knives on it but nothing has helped. Used it last year and only busted 2 or 3 bales all season. I just can't figure it out and I'm about to pull my hair out. I appreciate any help and comments.

our old new holland 268 did that once and only when we changed out that spool of twine did it quit. might be the case here(no pun intended). give it a try and see if it works. just looking at the twine we couldnt see anything wrong but when we switched it it worked perfectly so there had to be something wrong with it. hope this helps.

Had that problem once, check the threading on the baler and anything the twine runs past that moves. There was a burr nicking the twine in the same place on each stroke.

Ken brings up a good point. When I thread the twine, I make sure I run it through the needles and above the bracing of the bale chamber before I tie it off. In the past on my ol 532, I ended up shoving some twine pieces in the bracing because the twine would try to wedge itself in there while the bale was moving down the chamber.

Another thing I'd try is to loosen up the crank handles. Maybe putting less hay in a bale would keep the string from breaking. That and string tension is about all I can think of.

Are you using last year's twine?
That twine can look good - and have a spot in the roll that got a little damp - it will break there every time. It's likely you can't tell by looking. I'll bet if you replace that roll your troubles will stop.

The twine is brand new. I never reuse the twine that is leftover in the baler from year to year. Thought it might be the brand but switching brands didn't work either. The left side does perfect it's only the right side. I'm stumped!

To get you out of the field, maybe try plastic twine on the bad side. I dunno, but I'd sure like to hear what it was when you find out. I use a heston inline and if I ever run across that, I sure would like to get it fixed quick.

The knife arm on those bales had sharp edges on it that caused the twine to fray. Take the knife arm off and try to file and sand down the sharp edges.
