Just got insurance bill for the year from State Farm, this is just my
homeowner's, my cars are on 6 month cycles. It went up $161 this
year. I'm tired of them raising the price by large amounts every
year. I expect it to go up, but that's almost a 30% rise. I've been
looking at Allstate. The house comes in a little cheaper, maybe 15%,
the cars come in 50% cheaper.

Anyone have any other suggestions for home, car insurance?

I have auto-owners or maybe they just go by owners ins. ?? on the house and cars. I have tried to find something for less ,but so far none have been able to do better.

Had to use it once on the wifes van and they did fine.

If you buy CHEEP insurance, thats what you get..
..CHEEP.
I can tell you horrer stories about Allstate...
but thats just my experiance. Just ask the people
from New Orleans about Allstate, and denied
claims !

I've had auto insurance with State Farm ever since I bought my first car way back in 1968. Never could find another company that could, or would provide the same coverage for the same money, BUT I never could get State Farm to even come close on Home owners insurance. Always got the best deal from Pioneer Mutual, but since I've never had a claim, I really don't know how that would be handled.

Just did the shopping around thing. Auto Owners beat them all. Quit Allstate I had been with for 40 years. Asked them all the time if they could come up with better deals. They said I had the best they had.
Got much more coverage with Auto Owners at less cost.
Allstate started whining every day on the phone they could have given me better deals. I asked why they didn't when I was asking them to.

Let me state it the way it really is in many cases. Just because you pay way too much for insurance (or anything else for that matter), does not mean that you are getting the best for your money.
Most of them are run by bean counters, not by customer service people that want to build a great company one customer at a time.
Think about it, somebody out there has bought a top of the line car and had trouble with it.
Too many companys rely on expensive advertising to shape the perception of their company. If they would put some of that money in to cost cutting and good customer service, they would have more customers than they could handle. And, they would have money left over to invest back in to the business.
But, so many people rely on TV and other media to tell them what is best, and much of it is lies or twisted facts at best.
Brand names and household names are just that, but are not at all the best value for your money.

I've had both farm and auto insurance with State Farm for over twenty years, and, of course, receive a multi-coverage discount.

I've shopped in the past but have not found a reason to change.

I have all my isnsurance through AARP with the Hartford ins. Best I ever had ,More coverage , cheaoer , Allstate leaves a bad taste in my mouth, had them for years I should own the company for all the premiums I paid , wife got hit by a alstate ins person that person was found at fault by judge , but wouldnt tell her ins. she had a wreck . Allstate never pay , had to have my ins pay to fix my car

Recently reviewed/renewed home owner's with Farm Bureau. They dropped the earthquake rider; said we had to have a separate policy. About 55 dollars a month just for the earthquake and .............deductible is 20% ($48,000.00). Thought about it a long time, before deciding to pay it. We're almost on top of the New Madrid fault.........

Been with Farm Bureau for 30 plus years, never a problem. Just did the price comparison deal and found that for $100.00 more, I get a whole year ins. on two vehicles, than the others want for 6 months. Even had a wreck one Monday a.m. in a replacement vehicle that had not been reported and they backed up the date of coverage and paid anyway.

If you or your parents, MIL, FIl were in the military, you qualify for USAA. We switched 6 years ago from American Family and have been pleased. Were are in our early thirtys with three cars good coverage but not comp, the monthly bill is under $60. We also have checking account through them, its free and we can use our debit cards at ANY atm and will not be charged. We are in Iowa the bank is in TX, which can be a pain sometimes but it all works out. We would have homeowners through them if we qualified but we don't because the farm is considered income producing property.

I did not serve in uniform but my FIL did. I would like to thank all of you who served and are serving. Thank You.

I had auto insurance through The Hartford, and they cancelled on me...not because of nonpayment. not because of too many claims, but because I had too many "incidents" where other at-fault folks hit MY car in parking lots and such.

Still have my homeowners coverage through them...their adjuster has decided to buy a new roof for my house [2003] and my garage [2010], but no other claims.

I had the AARP insurance (Hartford) but they kept raising the premium a lot so I checked around. Best price I found was Progressive. (guess those TV ads do work) They have a neat website where you can get a quote online.

At one time we had 11 families on Farm Bureau, today not one family is still on it. All I can say is enjoy the low rates, you're getting what you pay for.

Most recent switch, my BIL (a Farm Bureau Family of the Year a couple years ago) had a barn burn down with their kids show pigs in it. Even though he could document the value of the pigs (and had the receipts) and had told the agent that was all he had on the farm when he bought the policy (agent shows pigs too) he was paid "market rate" for the animals - about 20% of their value. Apparently to cover "valuable" breeding stock you had to have another super secret policy.

In my experience it is cheaper getting quotes online. Some of the bigger companies offer discounts when ordering online, because it is less work for them. But to be safe you could compare quotes online, pick the best offer and try a local agency to see if they can match it or do better.

I recommend this site for online comparing: www.quotes-center.com

My wife does everything online, but the people I have talked to have been polite and knowledgeable, once you get passed the call screeners that is. I'd try again and see maybe you'll get someone else.

I was with Frankenmuth mutual, they were the underwriters. But the price increases sucked. I was paying $1000 per year. I went to a farm Bureau agent and now I am paying $730 per year.
State farm is one of the high ones for home insurance. They quoted $1300 for my house and I told them thanks anyway but I dont like getting ripped off.

I inspect a lot of houses for USAA. A large share of the insureds have switched from other companies and talk about how much they save.

I'm former military, maybe I should check it out.

Been with USAA for over 30 years. I"ve had multiple claims both home and auto and they"ve been fair. Premiums are OK and I get a check each year for several hundred dollars from their profits.

I think their home is in Texas but they opened a large office in Phoenix also. All my children are with USAA including a daughter who is a claims manager for a large local insurance company.

If you can get USAA by all means do so. I have it as a former Naval Officer.
After one light to moderate hail storm when I lived in FL, I was the only house that received a settlement out of over 40 homes in the developement. I was the only one with USAA. They just sent me a check, and I made some minor repairs myself.

Every time there is a insurance $$$ out like a tornado in ???. Here in Canada our Premiums go way up to help cover their paper losses.
So, Ha Ha "I'm tired of them raising the price"
Ha Ha, Insurance covered in JAPAN 35 BILLION, how much will be your share.
I know it's no laughing matter just reality.

I was having trouble with the guy understanding that my house is a log home and I also have a classic vehicle to insure.

You guys make me cry.

Here in Ontario, it"s $1100 to insure my 2004 Suzuki Bandit 1200S motorcycle for one year. One year being 6 months of weather where you can actually ride, or 3 months if you take out all the rainy days, and days when you"re busy doing other things. Forget canceling the policy for the winter too, because it"s pro-rated, you pay all your premiums during the riding months, then you get the rest of the year "for free", i.e, you get no rebate if you cancel. So for half of the term of the policy, the insurance companies are at zero risk for paying out anything. Forget buying an older bike too, as most will not insure a bike over 25 years old, and only one or two will give you vintage insurance once it hits 30 years old, which means no riding it to work or school, and only 1300 miles (2000km) a season for riding. I have two 1983 motorcycles, and the cost of insuring them is almost as much as the 2004. 60 insurance companies sell insurance in Ontario, but it"s a bit like buying gas, it"s pretty much the same screw job no matter who you call.

If I didn"t love biking I"d be giving it up, but I thought long and hard about it last year.

Progressive stinks in my experience. Traded 1 car in on another and transferred the coverage. 3 weeks later they "Made Changes" to my policy. They decided I still owned car #1 and decided to insure it and charge me. There was no getting through to them it had been sold. They even refused to go away when I stated loudly that they were FIRED. Been with Farm Bureau ever since.
